Pat Surtain: 2005-2009

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/24/chie...n-who-is-next/

Quote:
Kansas City remade its front office, its coaching staff and now it gets to work on its roster. One of the first of those significant moves came Tuesday, when the Chiefs cut veteran CB Patrick Surtain.

The move removed Surtain’s $7 million base salary off Kansas City’s books and instantly freed up $6.184 million that the Chiefs will now be able to spend on free agents and draft picks. The 32-year-old Surtain is not expected to be the last Chiefs player released before Friday. Veteran LB Donnie Edwards could also be in jeopardy, as he is scheduled to make $5 million in base salary. If he is released, it would free up another $4.5 million in salary-cap savings.

It’s the time of the year when the size of the free-agent pool grows by the day. It happened Tuesday in Kansas City, and it will happen again Wednesday and Thursday in other cities.

The offense was also substantially altered after Thigpen took over, too. He sure didn't have much success until after it was altered.

Look, I realize lots of people really hated him. For those who do, that's fine. But we've had far worse players than Huard stinking up Arrowhead. Remember Sims? How about Hicks, or McCleon, or Bartee? I'll save my hatred for those ****ing scumbags - they cost us far more than Huard ever did.

C'mon man. Huard is a pocket QB, whereas Thigpen is a fast QB who can dodge pressure. Most pocket QBs are slower than Thigpen and would have got destroyed back there. Not to mention that the spread offense is designed to make it easier for a QB to escape pressure.

The offensive line the last few years sucked. And that's a horrible thing for a pocket QB with no mobility. I can't believe there are seriously people who are arguing otherwise.

I dunno, Frazod. For some reason, the only people who fans seem to respect are those who are annual pro bowlers. Fans won't hesitate for a second to throw anyone else under the bus--I first found that out when the fans turned on Trent Green like a bad habit.

I don't understand what's to hate about the guy. He didn't quit on the team--there were reports saying that last year he was bruised up because he kept getting clocked on almost every single throw. He didn't complain, he willingly mentored the young QBs, and he handled the Green/Huard QB situation with a hell of a lot of class. There's not much to hate about the guy. He probably was never good enough to be a starter, but that's the Chiefs' fault for making him one. As a backup, he was as good as they come.

No way. I'll take a really durable player over a good passer for QB #3. If you're down to the third guy, you need somebody who is going to last the rest of the season. If he gets injured early, you won't have anyone left at the position who is familiar with the playbook.

He sucked ass, he had a couple of decent games for the Chiefs when Green when down.. Thankfully they ran LJ into the ground that year to protect BigFetal...

Yes the shitbag did quit on the Chiefs in the Broncos game at home when they made him the starter in 2007... **** Huard and all the fans that want to get all weapy eyes for him... He stoled money from this franchise and gave nothing in return...

Starting him cost us the 2007 season, we didnt know if we needed a QB or not, He went out and put up an epic pyle of fail...

Maybe all the fans that love players whom provide nothing to getting this team closer to a championship can leave with them...

Starting Damon Huard in 07 were the final nails in Herm's and Carl's coffins. You should worship the ground Damon Huard walks on.

I would like to thank Damon Huard and Donnie Edwards for their play over the years. No hard feelings.
