Good point. I might be conflating.

My vision is no doubt clouded because I see LJ as a disingenuous little bitch who has had the world by the balls but still finds a way to whine.

It would take some serious convincing to get me to change this view of him.

My view of him isn't much different.
I'm FAR from an LJ apologist.

And I pat myself on the back for calling it EARLY on.
I said a long time ago when he publicly challenged Eric Hicks to finish an on-the-field fight in the streets that he was a problem.

No one listened to me.

I'm just curious and am in no way trying to start an argument, but do you believe that being a part of one culture, in this case, the black culture, that it should define you? Doesn't it bother you to lump everyone into one category? I'm really not trying to be argumentative, I am really honestly curious. I get frustrated when people try to equate me with all women, as if we are all alike... isn't it fair to say that perhaps Larry Johnson is a man all his own, apart from the black "gangsta" (for lack of a better word and to use the one that's already being thrown around) culture and perhaps him trying to be that man conflicts with this "culture" you are equating him with, hence this hideous outfit?

Culture defines us all.
I identified Hip Hop culture though. Not Black culture.
Which aren't exactly a 1:1. They overlap, but are still distinct circles.

I'm wondering where I did that?
I said that his fashionable expression is derived from Hip Hop culture.
How does that equate to all of Hip Hop let alone Black culture?

Why does such a distinction need to be made?
Larry Johnson or the guy two doors down... This form of fashionable expression is absolutely derived from Hip Hop culture. That can't even be argued.

And again, if you think the outfit is hideous you're entitled...
But I'm certain you own something that he'd think was hideous.
It's a matter of taste.

Can we get past that?

Like I said, not trying to be argumentative, it just seems you have a different take on the subject. The woman thing was just meant as an example, not something I thought you had done.

My point is that just because he is a part of hip hop culture as you call it, does not mean that this outfit doesn't represent some disconnect he has with that culture. Maybe he doesn't quite pull it off because he's not as closely connected to hip hop as he'd like to be. Maybe he's a part of that culture, but his own individuality clashes with it as well?

Hip Hop is do what you will with what you got. Cool for him that he's chosen to make people laugh. Thats really is a good thing.
Jay? No. Lupe or Pharrell or Schwayze? Sure. I think it just looks ridiculous because Larry is a big ass athlete. If it were on one of the little impish hiphop dudes, it wouldn't look as silly.

There's nothing to pull off.
That's pretty standard dress for Hipsters these days.
I've seen this look a million times over.

It just doesn't ring true for you. And that's because you don't identify with the culture itself. And that's okay, but call a spade a spade... Sheesh!

How silly to think that just because someone wants to puke when they see this particular outfit that it means they are not fully able to enjoy any of the thousands of other walking examples in his user defined socially evolved culture.
