I put this information in the thread about signing a CB. Since that thread has fallen off the cliff and I'd like people to read it, I'll also post it here...
NFL history on Travis Daniels. Some of this you already knew but some of it was new for me and I thought might shed some light on what expectations might be for Daniels with the Chiefs. Good size at 6'1", 195 lbs and a good athlete but not a speed burner. Teamed up with Corey Webster at LSU under Coach Nick Saben and formed one of the best tandems of cornerbacks in the country. At the LSU Pro Day, he ran a 4.55 and 4.57 forty but also had a 10'2" long jump and 37" vertical. He was drafted in the 4th round by the Miami Dolphins by his former head coach from LSU, Nick Saben. His first year in the NFL was probably his best year with playing in 16 games and starting 14 of those games. That year he had 61 tackles, 13 PDs, and 1 interception. In 2005 it looked like Daniels would be one of the young players that Miami could build on, along with Channing Crowder and Ronnie Brown. Then in 2006, Travis hurt his ankle in the preseason that caused him to miss the preseason as well as the beginning of the regular season. In game 6 he hurt his right knee. He tried wearing a knee brace but his play fell off with the previous ankle injury and knee injury and he only started 6 games and finished with 36 tackles, 1 PD and 1 interception for the season. In January, Travis had ankle surgery to repair his injured right ankle. In 2007 the Dolphins switched head coaches. After Nick Saben left, the Dolphins went with Cam Cameron. Travis lost his starting CB job to Andre Goodman. The coaches under Cameron tried switching Daniels to a safety and he played both positions as the team needed. He had 5 starts and finished with 28 tackles, 4 PDs and 1 interception. In the offseason the Miami Dolphins under went another change this time going with head coach Tony Sparano, GM Jeff Ireland, and VP Bill Parcells guiding the team. In April, Sparano had this to say about Travis Daniels, "Right now we're going to look at him as a corner, with the safeties we brought in. We know he has the ability to play two positions back there and on game day that's important. On game day you're looking for guys that can do more and Travis is a young player we feel can do a few things back there. He's one of those young guys we're excited about watching, but we're going to start him right now at corner". On August 20th the Dolphins traded Travis Daniels to the Cleveland Browns. This was a conditional draft pick that turned into a 7th round pick for 2009. With this late trade, Daniels was behind in learning a new defense and he sat for a while. 2008 was not a good year for Travis. He was on the Browns inactive list for week 10 and then was inactive from week 12 through week 17. He played in 7 games for the Browns but having only a total of 5 tackles. Three of these were on special teams. As a free agent in 2009, three teams were reported to have interest in Travis Daniels, Patriots, Broncos, and Chiefs. The new head coach for Denver, Josh McDaniels, Bill Belichick, New England Patriots, and and new GM Scott Pioli, Kansas City Chiefs probably saw Travis play against them several times when New England would play Miami. The Chiefs signed Travis Daniels on March 10th, 2009. Current rostered DBs for the Kansas City Chiefs are Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Maurice Leggett, David Macklin, Ricardo Colclough, Jarrad Page, Bernard Pollard, Dajuan Morgan, and recently re-signed Jon McGraw. The Chiefs signed him because he is young at 26 years old, has experience, and he gives the Chiefs flexibility at the DB position. Hopefully Kansas City will be able to see more of what Travis played like in 2005 and not what he played like in 2008. |

I prefer not going through huge threads. If you consolidated, it would create a monster.
When the Chiefs signed Travis Daniels I knew a little about him but not a lot. I remembered him from his days at LSU and I followed him during the draft because I thought maybe he would be a good CB for the Chiefs to draft in later rounds. Also in 2005 he was in the news as a starter for his first year at Miami so there was some stories. After that I lost complete track of him so I was curious of what had happened to him in the last three years. I started doing research and after reading the information from probably 30 different stories, I pieced together the story of injury, coaching changes, trade, and free agency. I always have hope for a new player but it sounds like the best we might hope for right now from Travis Daniels is he might be a special teamer and be a 5th CB/safety. I just looked for a right tackle that was projected as a high 2nd rounder. Assuming that we could trade down and pick up 2nd round pick, who would be a good RT? The way Alabama's Andre Smith is dropping, maybe he will be there.

Andre Smith -
Well, his workout times were unspectacular. He came in at 6-foot-4 ¼, 325 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.28 and 5.33 seconds. He had a 25-inch vertical, a 7-foot, 10-inch broad jump, a 7.88-second three-cone drill and 19 bench press reps at 225 pounds. He did the short shuttle in 4.93 seconds. To put Smith’s workout drills in perspective, he did not post a single number that would have placed him in the top performers at his position at the combine and many of his numbers were not even close to the top 10 at his position at the combine. http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/03/11/earl...not-promising/ |

Add CB Ken Lucas, Carolina Panthers, to the available free agents. I don't know if the Chiefs need a leader with their defensive back group or not. If so, then possibly the Chiefs should take a look at him. He has been very productive for Seattle and Carolina and he is 30 years old. Did Patrick Surtain provide leadership last year? Are Page and Pollard the leaders now?
I wanted Ken Lucas to be picked up by Chiefs back when he signed with the Panthers as a free agent. I'm certain he is past his prime now and would only be worth it if we could sign him to favorable team weighted contract. |

Good business or is this a problem going forward?
http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal...he_ideal_deal/ Evans's decision came down to the Patriots and the Saints, although Matt Cassel was making a push for Evans to join the former New England quarterback, Vrabel, and general manager Scott Pioli in Kansas City. "This is one of the main reasons I respect Scott," said Evans. "He said, 'I know Bill is trying to re-sign you, and I respect Bill so much, and he's done so much for me, so I'm not going to be in play.' I know Matt Cassel was pushing hard for it. We would have loved to be with Mike and Matty. But we found a great home, and I'm excited to see how it goes." |

(per rotoworld) The player rep for free agent FB Leonard Weaver thinks his client should be paid like a tailback. No wonder he hasn't taken many visits. Weaver offers third-down value and might help in short yardage in another system, but won't find anyone willing to pay him like Derrick Ward. Only the Eagles are showing interest currently. |

He won't be paid like a Tailback so... That's moot anyway.
