I disagree. I don't think any veteran likes seeing a first day employee making more than they do. Next years rookies are not a part of the players union. Who's going to speak on their behalf?

The less money that is spent on rookies, the more that can go to veterans.

The players want a bigger cut of the pie - the vets don't want to take money from the rookies, they want to take it from the OWNERS. And if you don't think veterans use rookie salaries as a bargaining tool, you're kidding yourself. If less money is spent on rookies, the vets lose part of their leverage for bigger contracts.
