Football Would you try to acquire Merriman? - Page 2

Apparently the Chargers are putting him on the trade block. He hasn't been good at all lately.

With that said, would you try to acquire him for say a 5th or 6th rounder to have his rights next year if it's uncapped?

Or is he finished at the ripe age of 27?

I think this defense needs someone who can potentially collapse a pocket, so I say yes, but I also get too hung up on guys who performed well years ago.

Thoughs?

I agree with the earlier post about them not trading him to a division opponent. Having said that, I'd hit that yesterday. While they'll probably let him go, there's probably another team willing to give up a pick to get him.

I agree, for a 5th or a 6th how could you NOT take a flier on the guy? 27 is 27. A guy that young, with his history on the field, is worth a 5th or 6th. Yeah, it was 'roids, yeah, he's had injury problems... but it's still worth it.

Hell, I despise the guy, and I'd be

with happiness if the Pats got him for a 5th or 6th...

All depends on the pick. For Merriman, a 5th or 6th is not "throwing away a draft pick". Hell, he's probably worth a 5th AND 6th, or a lone 4th if you're really hot for him. I certainly wouldn't trade a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd for him.

Yea, I wouldn’t disagree. I’m not “hot” enough for a 4th but something after that wouldn’t bug me.

The guy is broke, and has not been the same player since he's been on the test list.

Why do the Chargers spend their first round draft pick on a guy (Larry English) who plays the same position and style as Merriman if there wasn't major concerns about the guy?

That's all this team needs - wasting a draft pick(s) on a broken, expensive, opinionated loudmouth as they try to rebuild. He's just what our locker room needs...yeesh.

5th or 6th no brainer .... yes. A 4th ... probably considering you want to get 2-3 years out of him. A 4th with a conditional 3rd based on performance ....would have have to consider but would probably lean against. I would pass on a 3rd or below.
