I think I need to hire a lawyer for my 16 year old son who got a speeding ticket for going 34 in a 20 school zone.

It is a church school that he didn't realize was a school, and on the description on the ticket, the officer clocked him before he was even 10 feet into the school zone. And he was sitting there waiting for a high school kid, because high school had just let out. I have literally driven down this road over 50,000 times in my life, at all times of day and year, and have never seen cop checking speed in this school zone.

The cop could have seen how nervous my son was, and been understanding about his lack of knowledge of the school, but he wasn't.

So, I need to hire a lawyer, and thought I would ask here first.

If you are not a lawyer, maybe you could recommend someone.

Funny story, when I got my renewal through 2010, I first noticed that I never put my 2008 sticker on my car. I drove 2 years with 2006 tags on my car without incident. The tags were in my glove box so I guess if it ever became an issue I could remedy it on the spot.

More related to the topic header, just this week I was driving a couple of car lengths behind a cop as we approached a school zone. As I slowed to the new speed limit the cop sped up [we (ie flow of traffic) were already going about 41 in a 35, he sped up to at least 45 in a 25]. And he wasn't en route to any location as I caught up to him at the next light and he was drinking coffee and chatting on his cell phone.

Good lesson for your kid. Screw up. Have Dad make tons of excuses for you and then pay to make the problem go away.

I'm sure this will really teach him about responsibility. What a crock of shit.

You know the problem with society? Parents like you. Keep raising irresponsibile kids and then wonder why he's still living with you at 30 and writing articles for WPI in 10 years.

I have seen a Chicago cop turn on his lights and siren to blow through a red light, then immediately turn into a Dunkin Donuts. Not responding to a call, just... donuts. I know because I actually pulled into a parking lot and watched him. I wish I'd had a camera.

We live in Blue Springs, so you know the cop was a dickhead. (And if you are a Blue Springs cop reading this, eff off you f**cking c**k***ker, you know you are a dick)

You want to hire a lawyer for some misdemeanor moving violation? Really? Wow. And I mean, wow.

If my kid got busted for doing twice the posted in a school zone, I'd show her pictures of her when she was 6 years old and remind her that little kids like that walk through school zones and sonsabitches that speed through them kill little kids just like that and then kick her in her ass - twice - take away her license for six months and make sure that the judge gave her double community service for blazing through a school zone. I would be mother ****ing irate.

There could still be a lesson for the kid and a way to keep his insurance from going up. Make him pay the lawyer fees. It actually might be worse on him. He would probably have to pay double.

It has nothing to do with how long I've been a parent. I've worked with parents for the last 5 years as a teacher and the lengths parents will go to to ensure responsibility is removed from their kids and placed on someone else is ridiculous.
