****Official Weight Loss and Exercise Thread****

I know that TinyE has the CP Weight Loss Challenge thread, but this is a new beginning for me. No losing weight for prizes, as that motivation ended on July 1st. This time I'm doing it for me. My goal is 75 lbs. Slow and steady wins the race. This time, the prize will be a whole new me.

Anyone else still battling the bulge? Here, hopefully, you can find more encouragement and tips on diet and exercise. Feel free to talk about discouragements, setbacks, frustrations, etc as well. We're here to help...at least I am.

I wouldn't get in a fist fight about it, there's only a few things that can cause that.

Fair fight. We can even wear gloves and headgear, so that we don't mess up that pretty little face of yours and further worsen your chances of getting laid... since that is your one goal in life.

I am 35, 5'10", 190lbs, and I can't even bench 300lbs. I am a bit of a wimp.

Just let me know. And yes, I am serious. We can even set up a ring. We can have people from the planet attend... even sell tickets to benefit the planet, or a charity.

I am down for whatever. Also, I have no formal boxing training.

We can do regular boxing, or kick boxing, or heck, go all MMA.

Name the game....

IMO, whole grain brown rice is the best. Just get a rice cooker and cook it with some chicken broth (barely any calories in the broth, but tons of flavor).

Sure, but if you're not exercising to begin with, you're not going to lose muscle mass.

Additionally, if you maintain a low calorie diet for a long period of time, your body's metabolic rate will drop to adjust, and you will feel sluggish, and you will eventually stop losing weight and may even put weight back on. Even if you are still overweight.
It only takes one or two cheat meals to shock your system back into gear. Most people do those things naturally, through social occasions, work parties, or just buying a couple of candy bars at the checkout counter. Still, your metabolic rate won't "drop" that far, because your body's metabolic rate is largely determined by your genetics. There's only so low it will go, unless you're literally starving yourself.

I think it is smarter to encourage excercise, especially, resistance training first to build muscle, to increase metabolism. Then, start to work on a diet. Even then, you want to make sure your diet still has enough protein to avoid the body using mucscle mass as fuel.
I'm not discouraging exercise. I'm simply saying that it doesn't take a gym to get a six-pack. Obviously, exercise is important, but diet is WAY more important. If you could only do one thing for weight loss, the thing you should do is diet. That's where most of the calories are lost.

You're absolutely right about resistance training, but muscle doesn't really burn THAT many additional calories.

She did also say that she wasn't fat, but rather 'flabby'. While resistance training won't firm up the fat covering her muscles, it does give you better posture, and more support to help carry the flab better.

Agreed. I'm really not trying to disagree with you; more just trying to put the emphasis on diet. You're absolutely right that resistance training is important.

IMO, the order of importance for fat loss is:

Diet -> Weight training/resistance training -> interval cardio -> steady state cardio

You are such a douchebag. You have almost 1/10th of million posts, most of them derogatory comments, personal insults or just trying your very best to offend as many people as you can by repeatedly pissing all over the values they hold dearest like god/jesus ect. I really do feel sorry for you. You must be a miserable guy with zero self esteem to dedicate so much time in that effort. If you had any huevos at all you would put down the hand lotion, get out from behind the screen and accept what you have coming instead of trying to hang your hat on getting someone kicked off the BB for threatening you. That's you though, I get it. It should come as no surprise that there are a boat load of people on this board who would like to see of do your beatdown. It's what should have happened to you a long time ago.
