Why?

That doesn't make sense.

Are you saying that Maclin will be a better player and more valuable to his teams success than Crabtree? If so, its ok, I do disagree though.

You can watch Crabtree play and he has that "it" factor.

I think he will be a all pro.

Maclin hasnt showed that so far. IMO

Yeah, a rookie receiver from a spread offense coming in and giving you a projected 60 catches, 5 TDs and 800 yards is really something to bitch about.

They were both from spreads, its just one has a much bigger frame and the other is much faster/quicker

crabtree (Alex Smith/Shaun Hill)

8 games
37 catches
12.8/catch
473 yards
2 tds
59.1 per game

Maclin (McNabb/Kolb)

11
46
623
13.5/catch
4 tds
56.6 per game

They actually match up better than I thought.

Should be interesting to see how their careers play out, as it seems it may be more interesting than how our teams will...

I guess I just think that with Cassel obviously cemented in here for a couple more years, Crabtree could have done more for us, I may be wrong

They've lost more games with Crabtree than without Crabtree.

I'm not saying I prefer Maclin or Crabtree. I'm saying it's stupid to limit your WR choices to only fit your current QB's strengths.

You're asking them to dumb down or slow down the WRs they draft because at the moment we have a QB incapable of an accurate long ball. Well what happens if Cassel breaks his arm the first game and we insert a QB who prefers the long ball? Then we're stuck with a WR who can't beat his guy because we only signed slow receivers due to the last QB's ineptness.

And when you don't have any strengths, you take the most talented player at an impact position.

Crabtree and Maclin both came from the spread and Crabtree just had ungodly numbers in it. Like 40tds in 2 years

I wanted Orakpo and feel he or Crabtree would have drastically upgraded our team. DRASTICALLY

I still cant fathom how much this board hated Orakpo, before I showed up here I thought he would be the consensus favorite of the board. I wish I would have spoken up about him more, but I was kinda intimidated because of the consensus hatred for him here and was still (and kinda am to some here) an outsider.

speed
production
strength
size
intensity

What was the "selling case" of why the hatred ran so deep for him? Had to be more than "because he was from Texas and he sucks"

Oh well...

I wanted nothing to do with Orapko because Texas players have not translated well to the NFL in recent years. Far too many busts.

The fact is that Orapko plays on a pretty good defense with a decent push up front. He may or may not continue at this pace but to date, he's been a very solid pass rusher.

That was it for the most part. The local gurus said Texas players don't live up to their hype and everyone got on board. I kind of went with'em on it.

The proof is in the pudding.

Guys like DJ, Mike Williams, Limas Sweed, VY (until 7 games in this season), etc. haven't exactly set the league on fire.

No, you're not. You're saying build to the strength of only your current QB.

That QB could be replaced. Then we'd have a QB who doesn't struggle with the long ball, but still no WR with speed enough to stretch the field. And still no return man to field kicks.

Give the most important position on the offense the best and most versatile weapons available. That includes a WR with speed. One who could also return kicks would be a great asset at the moment. We have a big slow possession WR already in Bowe. Compliment that with other skills... like speeeeeed....

They could make plays to suit the strengths of both. Just because a guy is fast doesn't mean Cassel can't hit him on a crossing route. Then if a big arm QB comes in they could be a deep threat. I don't believe you take the slower guy just because Cassel can't throw downfield.
