They usually have dinner for two special that includes the three courses. With a bottle of wine, you are probably looking around $110.

You're better off going to a better but still fun restaurant for dinner (e.g., sushi, tapas) and hitting Melting Pot for dessert.

Are you taking her somewhere else for, you know, dinner then?

You better double that number if you actually want to eat.

I wasn't impressed. When I was therte it was just meat and veggies that you dunked in oil for a few minutes. If they had different batters to dunk in prior to frying that would have been better, but as I remember it, the taste was pretty bland. It wasn't even close to justifying the price.

Good lord, when did everyone on the board become GoChiefs?

F-it, just take her to Burger King and get some $1 double cheeseburgers, it's the best value you'll find.

The Melting Pot is a great date place. The fondue and dessert courses are stellar and if you just lay out a few more bucks you can get the main course with lobster and filet and other outstanding food.

It's fun, it's unique. If you get there and it's not terribly busy, ask if you can get a double-burner table so you can get a couple of different broths (I recommend the citrusy stuff and the coc au vin.

It's a date place. It's interactive and interesting. You'll have a constant source of discussion should things get slow (Hey, the carrots in the citrus stuff are great, give it a shot...so how did your mom die?).

Yeah, there are places you can go that are cheaper; 'better' is a strange determination because nobody will do fondue better, so if you like fondue that's the place to go. If you want a great steak, you should probably go elsewhere.

Stay the course and don't listen to these philistines

Hey, there is an idea. Open a place where you get different meats and veggies and crazy stuff like twinkies for dessert. There are different batters. Tempura, beer batter, corn meal batter, panko, etc. Then you deep fry your own food and make your own dipping sauces. That place would rock.

DO NOT WEAR A LEATHER JACKET THERE!

The "aroma" permeates all of your clothing. It is a bitch to get out of leather. Cloth, not so much.

The Melting Pot could be a great date location; or a horrific one. It depends on the chemistry you have with your date. A dinner at TMP can last for three hours.... that's great if you have a connection with your date; it sucks if you find them dull, stupid, lame, or an asshole.

I love it. It's expensive, but I love it. I'm a big fan of cheese and a big fan of differing meats, and it's just kinda fun and different

I definitely agree that it is a great date place and the fondue and dessert are very good but you aren't going to drop a few extra bucks for the main course.

Here is the menu for KC in case anyone is interested. http://www.meltingpot.com/locations....64112&n=260117

You best check yourself right there. I don't have a single problem paying a premium for a quality meal and ambiance. $100 a plate - no problem - but this place is none of that.

I know I could kick their butt at a grocery store for $.30 on the dollar.

What's wrong with the ambiance?

It's a fondue place. They do fondue. They do fondue very well. If you want a great steak go to Peter Luger's.

Exactly.

The money isn't the issue.

What you GET for the money, well, that's the issue.

At least to me.

100% agreement. Good food is worth it. Melting Pot is not.
