Fargas will visit Chiefs

Fargas will visit the Chiefs
Posted by Mike Florio on March 7, 2010 7:17 PM ET
Running back Justin Fargas, who was cut by the Raiders for supposedly failing a physical but who claims he didn't, could be getting a chance to take another physical soon.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Fargas will be visiting the Chiefs.

"I was told by [Raiders coach Tom Cable] that they were moving in a different direction," Fargas told White. "They said it was strictly about money. . . . I know some things were put out there, I guess they said I didn't ass [unfortunate typo not narrowly averted] a physical. I'm a little disappointed by the way it happened but I understand it's a business."

He told White that he won't be retiring, and while he says he won't return to the Raiders his agent has been in touch with the 49ers.

And if Fargas is willing to move north, his former college coach could be interested, too.

As to the notion that it was "strictly about money," Fargas was due to earn a base salary of only $755,000 in 2010. That said, there's a chance that he had a roster bonus due.

Per NFLPA records, Fargas was under contract with the Raiders through 2014, with a base salary maxing out at $1.775 million in the final year.

When the Jaguars who can't even half fill their stadium can sign some FA's but we can't when we literally have no payroll I'm going to be heavily ****ing pissed off.

I'm sorry it just reminds me of being a Royals fan.

That's not a guy I wanted to sign, but this team should have tried to make a play for one of the big name guys.

Why?

What the **** real difference would one of those big name guys have made?

You always cite the Chargers as a team that was built the right way.

Tell how many big name free agents they signed in the beginning of their building process.

And don't tell me Donnie Edwards.

I don't look at it that way Hamas.

The way I see it, to me, production is what matters in this league. If a guy produces, then I fail to see an issue. Sorry but my mind is fixated on the bottomline.

Chambers WAS that last year, and he did it in a limited amount of time. Which is what impressed me the most, that, and his ability to adapt to the offense very quickly. He brought something to this offense as Mr. Flopnuts mentioned earlier. If he can produce and know his role in the offense, then yeah Id consider that a good signing regardless of his age now. I think WR is a position guys can play into their mid 30's since there is less poundage and tear on the body as opposed to other positions. Mind you, I also think the way they condition themselves also makes a difference in determining how long they can play and how they perform.

And I think thats a big reason why Thomas Jones is so durable and playing at a higher level than he ever has in his career, and the guy is 31! which is amazing to me. Not to mention also he had his best season last year.

I don't believe the Chiefs will draft remotely that well, sorry I just don't see it.

If we had hired someone from Baltimore or Indy that would be one thing, but this is what we have.

So, in essense, you are suggesting that this team be built through free agency.

The Redskins are the model franchise for you.

I'm sorry, while I also question Pioli's ability to draft, I am not going to ever get behind the idea of signing big name free agents to build with.

Especially if we have to sign them at the prices they have signed for. Peppers was the only player really worth his hype and he got 42 mil in 3 years. Do we really want to pay that?

What big name FAs should we have picked up mecca?

No I'm telling you that the Chiefs will never win as an exclusively draft built team.

Not with these guys in charge.

The idea that expecting a team to sign a couple FA's makes them the Redskins is an extreme exaggeration so going to it as an argument is reeruned.

Green Bay was balls when they signed Woodson, what a horrible move eh?

While I agree with your overall assertion, some of this depends what one considers a "big name" guy.

For example, in past seasons, Jason Brown and Bart Scott were definitely top FAs, who probably lacked the name recognition for Joe Fan. But they were "big" in the sense that they backed up the Brinks truck, and I'd be fine with that.

I think Dansby and Rolle got reasonable contracts for what FA's get and we are a team that literally has no payroll.

Priest Holmes scored 27 Touchdowns in 2003. He, like Jones, had relatively little use early in his career.

How did he perform for the remainder of his career?

i would like to think an injury prone RB would be scared to death to run behind the chiefs line, you almost have to be tough as nails to run behind litterally one of the worst o-lines in all of football, but it might just show how little interest he is drawing from other teams, and how desprate he is. which in turn might mean we get him for cheaper than jones.
