Fargas will visit Chiefs

Fargas will visit the Chiefs
Posted by Mike Florio on March 7, 2010 7:17 PM ET
Running back Justin Fargas, who was cut by the Raiders for supposedly failing a physical but who claims he didn't, could be getting a chance to take another physical soon.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Fargas will be visiting the Chiefs.

"I was told by [Raiders coach Tom Cable] that they were moving in a different direction," Fargas told White. "They said it was strictly about money. . . . I know some things were put out there, I guess they said I didn't ass [unfortunate typo not narrowly averted] a physical. I'm a little disappointed by the way it happened but I understand it's a business."

He told White that he won't be retiring, and while he says he won't return to the Raiders his agent has been in touch with the 49ers.

And if Fargas is willing to move north, his former college coach could be interested, too.

As to the notion that it was "strictly about money," Fargas was due to earn a base salary of only $755,000 in 2010. That said, there's a chance that he had a roster bonus due.

Per NFLPA records, Fargas was under contract with the Raiders through 2014, with a base salary maxing out at $1.775 million in the final year.

Fargas was even injured in college, when we are the types of guys we're talking about in FA for a team that has no payroll and basically no players...there's little to be excited about.

Jacksonville has sunshine and beaches. KC has NOTHING but money.

either way you look at it, charles needs to be able to rely on another back to spell him every once in awhile or his career is going to be short, and i would truely hate to see that happen. Battle and K.Smith dont really seem to be able to fill that role, so lets bring in someone capable of it soon

Look you don't sign RB's, that's a position you draft, productive RB's are found all throughout drafts in in UDFA.

If any teams fan base should know that, it's this one who has now given 2 straight RB's 2nd contracts and watched them fizzle out.

Not with these guys in charge.

The idea that expecting a team to sign a couple FA's makes them the Redskins is an extreme exaggeration so going to it as an argument is reeruned.

Green Bay was balls when they signed Woodson, what a horrible move eh?
Green Bay has consistently had talent around for a long while now and assed out at random for random reasons (one of those reasons being Sherman).

Nobody is expecting the Chiefs to build a team exclusively on drafting or believing that signing a few players to complete a team is pulling a Snyder. The point that is being made is the Chiefs suck right now, will still suck even with Dansby or Rolle or Boldin and will continue to suck until they draft and develop better. Making it rain on a few players won't change this fact.

Trying to put the cart before the horse in a mediocre FA pool overall isn't going to improve the results on the field. Same thing goes for a good FA pool, though.

E: CP is lagging like crazy on my conquest to make awful posts.

The idea that you can't possibly consider signing a FA because you team sucks is pure bullshit.

Guess the Jets shouldn't have signed Bart Scott last year since everyone thought they were a 5-7 win team.

The Jets had plenty of talent around to start, drafted well and brought in a coach capable of properly utilizing it. Try again.

This team shouldn't sign Julius Peppers.

Bart Scott isn't Julius Peppers.

I would be all for bringing in guys like Scott and Jim Leonhard.

They are pieces.

Peppers is a final piece.

You don't sign that kind of free agent until you have a team ready to make a run.

Q_Q

The Chiefs really need to show some actual progress first to see if this "plan" is actually working. If it's not working, I'd prefer to not be saddled with over priced free agents that aren't worth a damn/don't fit in the next system to go along with a group of wasted picks.

Scott Pioli is going to cycle through a ton of lol tier Free Agents to try and get a gem out of the trash pile and will very rarely sign a bigger name Free Agent. Given that so far he's shown that he's a creature of habit, that's not going to change.
