I'd like to find the guy that did this, rip his still beating heart out his chest and hold it in front of his face, so he can see how black it is before he dies.

I could stomach him as a developmental QB if they hadn't invested $63 million in him. I think Croyle could get us to 9-7 this year by handing off to two 1 thousand yard RBs and converting some 3rd downs. He'd leave a bit more cap room for other weapons.

If all else fails we were still right about DV...

Well Brad, I actually look back on the DV years with a bit of nostalgia now that they are safely in the rea-view mirror. Haley is the antiDV. Both his Coordinators can coach circles around him. Chiefs fans will have high expectations for a turnaround season in 2010, and I think they will be pleased for the most part. But as the OP asserts, no more excuses. Haley has everything all the post-Marty coaches did not except a pro-bowl QB (yes, DeBerg, Montana, Bono, Grbac, Green all made the PB in Chiefs red). But Pioli signed Cassel, and he's going with him hell or highwater.

With this stable of RBs and Crennel's 3-4, I realistically think this team can win 9 games next year. I would consider anything less than that underachievment. As we all know, the distance between 10-6 and 6-10 can be acouple turnovers and a STs play or two.

Just for the sake of playing Devil's advocate...

Drew Brees was so piss-poor during his first go-round as Chargers starter that they drafted Rivers. Not saying that Cassel is Brees, but I am saying things were not exactly stacked in his favor last season.

- #1 Receiver out for 4 games due to substance abuse suspension.
- #2 Receiver doesn't get to KC till midway through the season.
- Stuck handing off to LJ for half the year.
- Offensive coordinator was fired before the start of the season.
- Offensive line had major issues throughout the season.

I will fully admit that he didn't play well even when Charles was tearing it up. But the situation he was put in was hardly one where you could legitimately expect success.

Now, with a new draft's worth of weapons, a re-tooled o-line, and a full off-season learning under Weis, I think it's reasonable to think that he can have a solid season. Maybe he doesn't make the Pro Bowl, but I think based on this off-season, he should have a markably better season this year as opposed to last. He did win 11 games two years ago (Which is still 1 more than the Chiefs have won in the past 3 seasons).

Always look on the bright side of life, peeps.

I applaud your optimism, buddy. But those 11 games were won with the same exact team that went 18-0, set a record for scoring offense and piled up 50 TD passes the year prior. We've seen Cassel pilot the most prolific offense in NFL history. 11-5, and 21 TD passes with the same exact team.

I hope he's AWESOME in KC with a more balanced offense that won't be running the spread like NE. But looks like Weis was brought in here to replicate the Pats spread O and we've already seen Cassel perform a workman-like fill-in role with average results. I'm 90% certain that nearly every back up QB in the NFL could have produced similar results on the 2008 Pats.

I just hope Haley/Weiss maximize what talent they HAVE and not hammer the available talent into the Kansas City Chieftriots. We've already seen this movie with Ramifization in 2001-2005.

But the Pats under Weis were never really a true 'spread' team... It always struck me that they went more spread when McDaniels became OC and the got Moss and Welker. Until then, Brady had the rep of being able to make his WRs better; after 2008, it was the combo of Brady, the scheme, and his WRs that made the Patriots offense so scary.
