Andrew Luck decides to stay at Stanford for one more year. It's probably a wise decision unless there is a rookie salary cap coming.

He's either going to take a serious hit in draft status or get drafted to the next shitty team.

And if you're going to a shitty team, a team like Carolina with a stable of young RBs, a couple of promising WRs (and a veteran with some gas left) and an O-line with some nice parts sure isn't a bad place to land.

Remember - Carolina was 13-3 2 season ago, right? And not bad last year either. This season was a blip, that's a solid franchise that will be in pretty good shape in short order.

The good news is that Gabbert could well end up in Carolina now, which would kick all kinds of ass.

I think we're going to see an NBA-style slotting system. Vets will sure as hell sell out the rookies, as long as the vets continue to get their money.

The NFL, much like the NBA, will be all about the 2nd+ contract.

That's not a bet I'd take.

I'm betting it easily cuts the guaranteed money in half for the top 10 picks, if not even moreso.

It won't make a difference for folks drafted around 20 back, IMO - but those really high end picks are going to take it in the shorts.

Exactly. These rookies aren't part of the union. If it guarantees that you can hold on to a broke dick for cheaper than you can a rookie, you'll give the broke dick one last payday.


The NBA rookies didn't get their pay scale cut in half, it was slashed by 80%.

Expect at least a 60% cut for the incoming n00bs.

Rookies aren't represented in the NFLPA.

If the NFL owners say to the players "Okay, we'll stick at 16 games but only if your increase in the revenue share comes first from the rookie pool", the NFLPA will say "sorry rooks, better grab your ankles"

I could see the rookie scale being absolutely demolished for the top 10 picks, easily being cut in half.

The top 10 doesn't. They still draw high annual salaries for their first 3-4 years and large bonuses.

Completely stupid decision, Carolina is a nice place to be geographically speaking. Football wise they have some nice pieces in place. I bet his goofy looking ass will regret it next year when he is stuck in Buffalo or Cleveland. You never stay when you are guaranteed the #1 overall pick to a decent team/city/state.
