Nah, office politics are a bitch, pun intended. I work with 9 women, and they love to hate the "hottie". They are all nice when she was around other than some eye rolling, but once fired, she was a slut, whore, etc., all because of her looks. Women are funny that way. My wife, and my partners wife were never really that fond of her either. Go figure.

We were starting up a project in a distant city and the client had a social gathering to let everyone get to know each other, and one subcontract member of our consulting team (whom we had hired over the phone) was an eye-scorcher. Gorgeous figure, gorgeous face, and she was really nice as well. We're talking spectacular in terms of appearance. Absolutely spectacular. Seriously. Spectacular. My coworker and I had a nice conversation with her (no threesome or anything, just a conversation) and we met a bunch of other people and had a generally pleasant evening.

When we were driving back to the hotel we were chatting about who we'd met, and my coworker said, "I hated that Maria woman." [Name changed to protect the innocent.]

By all rights she should have been posing in a bikini on a Tahitian beach for seven figures a year, and yet she seemed quite happy with the fact that she was meeting us at a consulting social.

I worked with that coworker for several years, and beginning with Maria I began recognizing the pattern that any time she met a woman who was more attractive than she was, she disliked the woman, and it was never for a legitimate reason. It was amazing and it was completely consistent, and my coworker never knew that she exhibited the pattern. There were only two attractive women that she didn't beat on, and I think that was only because they were other coworkers that I was friends with, so she didn't talk to me about them.

It was quite the eye-opener.

My wife's company just laid off one of her good friends. It stinks because my wife got her the job and the girl left her existing job to come work for the company. The girl has since thrown a fit and won't respond to emails from the bosses about finishing out the work in this pay period and returning the company computer. It's going to get ugly, I'm afraid, and my wife will be in an awkward spot.

I do not understand not returning the company computer..

On good terms I would finish the work while working towards the end date.. But it seems it was not good terms, so I would not finish the work.. I would return all the company property and then go job hunting..

2 years. That's what I had my wife tell her as well. She's going to want this job on her resume, so it's important to leave on good terms. She td my wife, "I won't use these assholes as references." my response: good luck explaining that 2 year gap in your resume.
