Anyone enjoy Black Friday nonsense?

Sears has announced they will be open on Thanksgiving Day for th first time in history...

Toys R Us has announced they are opening for Doorbusters at 10:00PM on Thanksgiving day....

Where does this nonsense end??? Do people not have anything better to do in their lives but go shopping anymore??

I guess im a traditionalist and feel everything should be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their employees deserve the break.

Oh, I'm sure when we are out we have picked up a few more things that we normally wouldn't have.

But in general we do 90% of our x-mas shopping on that day and save tons!
The itmes the people on our lists want are in the ads, we go get them early, you go back in the store later that same day and the prices are marked right back up! It's pretty simple to figure out.

Bump for 2011.

Now Wal Mart wont even close and some places like Target open at 10:00PM on Thanksgiving Night. Where does this insanity stop?

The funny thing is that businesses will keep pushing the start time up to "gain an advantage" and then eventually everything will be open on Thanksgiving and the whole "after Thanksgiving shopping rush" will die because there's nothing special about it. And we'll continue on our path toward wearing Mao jackets and marching lockstep in uniformity.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday and I can understand that, but Christmas is not.

my wife did it last year; she was out the door at 2:30am; and got home about 5 in the afternoon.

screw that. I'll just pay the difference. my time is worth more than whatever savings I would get.

Most major employers give their employees a paid holiday on Dec 25th. The day is yours to do with as you choose.

I've ventured out on Black Friday for the past five or six years any time I wasn't deployed when I thought there was something I just had to have. Of course I normally end up buying a buch of crap I don't need for other folks just because they would like it and "Hell, it's a good deal". I wouldn't go to Best Buy or something like that and camp out like some of those crazy ****ers (IMO) do and I'm normally not after the ______ that they only have 3 or 4 of in a store though.
The biggest things I can remember buying on Black Friday are a treadmill that was normally $1300 marked down to $700, a TV that was priced $899 down from $1299 the week before and some POS laptop for about $300 (but it got the kid through her first two years of college before everything had to be Apple).

I may venture out to a Wal-Mart (I know, I'm the devil) this Friday and try to buy a set of tires. They're $74 each rather than $159 so I can save a few hundred bucks and I need them anyway, so why not?

I've never bought anything on Black Friday, but I think I might do it this year. I'll probably go to Cabela's real early to pick up some winter clothes, like hoodies, a jacket, wool socks, and gloves. If I don't get pissed off from all the insane shoppers, I might head over to Nebraska Furniture Mart and possibly pick up a new laptop.

Two years ago (I think it was two) I saw two women get in a hell of a fight. Wal-Mart had some GPS units on sale and I though I would get one for each of my kids since they didn't have them.
There was a box with roughly 150 of them in the aisle and these two heifers were in front of it guarding it like there were only two of them and they were made of solid gold. When 5:00 comes one of them tears into the box and apparently elbowed the other and the fists started to fly. I just watched it for about 30 seconds or so in disbelief and a sweet looking little old (probably mid 60s) lady taps me on the shoulder and says something along the lines of, "Those two bitches have lost their minds, they aren't worth all of that. Oh would you mind handing me two of them". I couldn't help but laugh, so I handed her two, got mine and got the heck away from there.

Black Friday is awful, I hate going out, I usually stay home, if anything go grocery shopping but somewhere far far away from retail outlets. And this opening on hollidays is bullshit. They just keep moving it forward. Now most places are open the entire day. If people won't go they won't open, but I have a feeling people will.
