Playoff Fantasy Challenge

This is my first year. Has anyone done (and had success) in one of these?

In short, you pick 8 players (QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, DEF, K), standard scoring (not sure about PPR). If you pick a player on a team that wins, you get double points the next round. If they win again, you get triple points the next round. If you picked a guy in the first round and they make it to the super bowl, you get 4x points.

If a guy you pick gets knocked out, you can pick a new player, but the multiplying of points starts over.

Any good strategies? Would you spread your players around to different teams? Or would you essentially pick one team to ride all the way?

What was your roster by the way?
Mine ended up very much like yours.

Brees
Sproles
Rice
Colston
Nelson
Graham
Kasay
Houston D

I tried to limit myself to 4 teams: NE, BAL, GB, NO. I figured everyone else would take Packers. I couldn’t see riding the Patriots, since Welker is a PPR guy and the only other weapons are the 2 TEs and you can't have both. Baltimore’s offense is inconsistent. So I took all Saints, since they played in opening week, put up huge numbers, and have as good a chance to win the SB as anyone.

With Rice and Nelson, I went with an even balance of chance to go far AND put up numbers. I didn’t want to go with guys just because they were on a team, since Denver/Pittsburgh showed us that picking winners can be pretty tough in the playoffs.

Houston D, I thought taking an NFC Defense would be suicide, and if HOU won (like they did), they avoid playing NE in the next round. Actually, I was going to change it to Baltimore D, but got busy and completely forgot about it until the game started.

I mean, that's absolutely true...I wish I could've drafted in our CP league, but between my 3G not holding up, having my big $$$ draft AND bowling...it was pretty freaking tough. I tried though.

I'm curious because I've never done this before so I was thinking the 4X amplifier is the key to winning...

So I "tanked" my RB's and picked Packers/Patriots for everything else.

Hopefully that overcomes the Brees and Saints 3X factor if the Packers make the Super Bowl...

I haven't crunched the numbers but if I get Rodgers with a 4X amplifier in the Super Bowl that should pretty much cancel out Brees on a 3X and some...so if the Packers/Patriots make the Super Bowl I should make some serious $$$

my one glaring mistake was not trusting Sproles and taking Redman over Sproles because I figured the Steelers were a "shoe in" to beat the Broncos and I knew no one else was going to choose Redman...

Well....I'm not in one of these leagues.

How many points would my roster have scored in your league?

I'm not sure but you took too many conflicting matchups that would destroy your amplifiers and give you no shot to win...

I mean, yeah that's a real good roster I hear you, but you'll never build 3X or 4X amplifiers in bulk so you'd finish middle of the pack at best no matter what...

I mean, you sat on the 49ers DEF for a week so they could get double points against the...Saints? Why?

You set up an Arian/Rice battle...you need the 49ers to shut down Brees but Brees to score points? You took a Brees vs. Calvin in the 1st round? Makes no sense man.

I'm going off this week. 177 pts and my WRs haven't played yet. Bad news is, I'm heavy Saints.

Losing the saints sucks for me, but everyone had them. Now just hoping the packers lose so everyone has to start over.
