If sports has become that impersonal for you, that soulless and pointless, nothing more than finding cogs for a machine whose gears you care nothing for, is a sign that this isn't a healthy approach to the sport.
I'm not sure why this would surprise you. Fans don't get the opportunity to know the players in the way they did in previous generations. Players are pretty isolated in every sport now.
And they change teams so often and so quickly that it doesn't pay to get attached. I cheer for the Chiefs uniform. Rarely do I cheer for the player in the jersey anymore. The last jersey I purchased was a Tony G when he was a rookie. If I were to purchase one today it would be an Otis Taylor or a Willie Lanier.

I wasn't always this way, but the entire culture of the game/player has changed significantly over the years. Kinda weird I know, but true. For me at least.

Some people precipitated the fall.

OTW would probably root for Michael Vick if he ended up in a Chiefs uniform and took us to the Super Bowl.

If all you care about is the score on the scoreboard when it comes to sports, then I have no idea what you're doing as a Chiefs fan. That's not a True Fan argument or anything, it's just a mystery to me, if all you care about is objective success, locate a team that plays to your interests. The Chiefs haven't won a Super Bowl in decades and don't build their team the way OTW prefers.

Find a team that does it the way you like them doing it. Stop immersing yourself in a fanbase you hate, under a GM you despise, rooting for players you know won't seal the deal.

If the bottom line is all you care about, things like character, integrity and loyalty to the team... mean nothing.

Now, it's important to note that I'm not actively encouraging OTW to root for another team. I want him to stay a Chiefs fan. I just want him to screw his head back on.

Why wouldn't I?

Dude made a mistake, has done his time, and turned his life around.

I'd root for Ben Roethlisberger as well.

Did you root for Jared Allen? Larry Johnson?

I know the answer is yes, which makes you a ****ing hypocrite.

Jared Allen is NOT any of those three guys. He made a shit mistake that's unfortunately too common that claims too many people. If I condemned everybody I knew engaged in that shit at some point I would have the world's longest shit list.

LJ and Big Ben were engaged in various forms of domestic violence, and Mike Vick... well let's not go there.

But you make a somewhat decent point -- did I not root for LJ when he burst through the Ravens defensive line for a 44 yard gain? Just like I do when I root for Matt Cassel when he nails Bowe on a slant?

Yes, yes I did.

But not all rooting is created equal.

Just like not all opposition to a particular player/team is equal.

There is a special satisfaction in me when we beat the Denver ****ing Broncos. And I'm also happy when we beat somebody like the Seahawks. But there is a very special sensation to seeing the Broncos go down.

But if that's the psychological rabbit hole we're going down, then we have to acknowledge that that feeling works both ways.

I'm happy when LJ rips off a big run, but it's a lot more satisfying when Dexter McCluster can pull it off because McCluster's a good ****ing person who has overcome a ton of limitations to pull that accomplishment off. There's an element of satisfaction to that that LJ can never match.

Your argument, from the start of this thread, has been that it doesn't matter one iota to you.

That's lowest common denominator bullshit, friend.

Allen had 4 alcohol related offenses, 2 with the Chiefs. That's not just a "mistake".

Listen, it's your right to root like a 7 year old. "Look Daddy, the nice guy I got an autograph from made a play!"

It's also my right to root for anyone and everyone that performs at a high level for this organization, regardless of what they do in their personal lives.

If you get a warm-and-fuzzy over a "good guy" contributing, good for you.

I get a warm-and-fuzzy watching all ballplayers make great plays.

I never denied it was your right. Christ, what am I, the Bane of sportsmanship?

That was never my point.

Who gives a **** what someone does off the field? This isn't the ****ing 1600's. Even guys like Babe Ruth ****ed chicks, cheated on their wives and drank their asses off.

If Babe Ruth were a football player on the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, you'd be less satisfied with victories and Super Bowls?

WTF?

I just don't know, if you don't give two shits about the players, why even choose the Chiefs.

Again, I'm not telling OTW to stop rooting for the Chiefs. I'm genuinely puzzled.

If all you care about are wins and victories, the Chiefs clearly are not for you. They haven't won shit in decades, they have a GM guys like OTW can't stand, and are assembled in ways he disapproves of.

If all you care about are wins, find a team who builds itself the way you prefer.

Gee, thanks. Such insight. But then, I should consider the source, right, Voyager?

Shit, you're right! Morals, ethics and class went out of style a looooong time ago!

Why don't you just go and do a couple of lines with Lady Gaga and forget about Chiefsplanet?
