When do you give up as a fan?

This is not a thread about not being a Chiefs fan, just a thread wondering about those who don't spend as much time being a fan.

I know this subject has been covered ad nauseum, but lets take a different look at it. The Chiefs suck, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Buckeyes are on a bowl ban, they are way overrated at #12, and watching them on Saturday made me sad. I realized that this team has a long way to go before I consider them good. I have become some apathetic towards the Chiefs and the Buckeyes that a lot of times I just don't care. I only watched 2Chiefs games last year. The Buckeyes I watched all their games, but never with great expecations.

When do you reach a point where you realize that your time is better off doing something productive? Have you as a fan reached that point? Are you a fan who will never do that? I admit that I will not go out of my way to go to Damon's and pay for lunch so I can watch the Chiefs this year. I remember the days of Trent Green and Priest Holmes, I was actually excited to watch the Chiefs, but I digress. I will keep watching the Buckeyes, but man does it suck to have teams you know aren't going to do anything this year.

I quit when the owners quit. It's why I quit on the Royals long ago. I don't think Clark Hunt has quit and I think he's trying.

Actually, they sort of did get destroyed in the second half. They scored a last second touchdown after the Falcons decided to pull their foot off the pedal otherwise the game was not as close as the final score indicated. At least the second half wasn't.

I also don't believe the Chiefs will be successful on a continuous basis as long as they are owned by outsiders and/or owners who have interests in multiple sports and teams. They are simply one fish in a pond and not THE fish in a pond.

I'm trying to get my money back on NFL Sunday Ticket right now...But I don't think the excuse of "The CHIEFS SUCK" is going to get it done. I have much better things to do on Sundays than watch that horse $hit team. Much easier for me to remain a fan if I don't watch them. Can't stomach the same BS year after year.

Depends on how you really define giving up. I will always be a Chiefs fan but I think I gave up on them after the Raiders game we lost right before the playoffs in 2010. Now I watch with no real expectations and just figure they are what they are and will probably never be a contender again.

that does not mean I will stop being a fan of the team though.

The only way I'd give up is if they moved the team to Toronto or something...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I'll never stop being a fan of the teams I love to watch and have cheered for since my childhood. Am I the crazy fan at the age of 41 that I was at 21 ... or even 31? No.

I no longer get incredibly PO'ed if something horrible happens, I'm married with 3 kids and I have a completely different set of focal points. Am I annoyed when things go south? Yes... but, things are much more in perspective now than they were years ago.

Even if I lived in Denver and could afford it with ease, I doubt that I'd own season tickets - I'd try to go to 1 or 2 games, but I'm not dedicating a full day and thousands of dollars each year to watch the games and pay for over the top expensive food.

Granted ... and this is not a jab, but when I look at "diehard fans" of teams like KC, Browns, Lions, etc ... I wonder "how do you they maintain that level of intensity for such a long period of time?" It has to take a toll which is one of the reasons I think you see a lot more 'reality' with older fans of teams.

I'll go to Wizards every now and then in Plano, where the KC fans go - freaking huge crowds - most bring families (which isn't always advised, IMHO), but they show up in great force with decorations - tailgate and they're "IN IT"... and honestly, it's fans like that when I think it would be great for a team like KC to win the Lombardi. My fandom aside, every true fan should experience greatness. Those 2 years in the late 90s as a Broncos' fan were incredible... at times during the last 12 seasons, I've relied on those seasons as comfort for better days ahead.

Some of you are way overdue on your ability to experience that... there are a dozen or so 'great owners' in the NFL, owners that are focused on always improving while others seem to be in it for just the bottom line. It's sad.

SLOW DOWN.

Baby steps.

We need to concentrate on a team that can win a playoff game first...
