In 2012, surrounded by talent, he racked up a whopping 200 yards per game before losing his job to a 2nd year player who had no experience.

So, to recap...

He couldn't take the most (arguably) talented team in the league to the SB in 2011, and lost his job to a virtual rookie in 2012, but he's going to come to a 2-14 team and be a franchise QB?

I swear, the arguments for Alex Smith are damn near identical to the arguments made for Matt Cassel in 2009. And Cassel accomplished more in 2008 than Smith has in ANY of his 7 seasons.

This is all over the fan base. It's only this site that is already hostile to the new regime. Either the Planet lacks the vision to see Reed/Dorsey's game plan for victory or we are the only ones seeing the looming disaster and wasted years.

Reid has the ability to the get most he can out of the QB position and he'll be calling the plays. I'm optimistic about how he'll use Smith's assets and minimize his weaknesses. The offense should be vastly improved which will also help the defense.

I love how everyone throws around that the 49ers were the most talented team when they had nearly the exact same roster in 2009 and 2010, no one was calling them the most talented back then. They get a real coach and all of a sudden they're the most talented team in the league.

It's only 12-15 or so outspoken members of Chiefsplanet, that continually spam each and every thread with Jeno's Pizza and bring up Alex Smith's numbers prior to having an actual coaching staff in place, that are unhappy.

That's what I'm counting on. Reid needs to get this offense to be able to throw TDs in the redzone.

The arguments may be identical but the two men are not.

Look, I understand and support your decision to cancel your season tickets. I would never in a million years tell someone how to spend their money and quite frankly, I'd give this regime at least a full year (if not two) before I plunked down any money, let alone, season tickets.

But Reid and Dorsey aren't Haley and Pioli. Reid has a proven track record of success. While he made the mistake of trying to take on personnel decisions and coach a football team, there's no denying the fact that when he was just a football coach, he was among the best in the game.

I don't believe that John Dorsey has been "Peter Principled" like Scott Pioli. It was obvious early on that Pioli was in over his head, from his free agency decisions to the draft to allowing his head coach to hire Clancy Pendergast, to allowing his head coach to fire Chan Gailey a week before the season and so on.

I don't know if John Dorsey will be a stellar GM or an average GM. But so far, he's re-signed his best players and franchised his LT. He's done a nice job of acquiring solid veterans in free agency and he identified the best available QB and traded for him. He's hasn't put on a show, hasn't made a spectacle of himself and has generally stayed out of the limelight.

I've seen Alex Smith over the years on many, many occasions. Sometimes he's been great, other times, not. But I watched him go into Denver on the last game of the season and knock the Broncos clear out of the playoffs. I've watched him "will" his team and up and down the field and I watched him quite a bit in 2011 and 2012.

What I've seen is NOTHING like Matt Cassel. The guy doesn't roll into a ball or take phantom sacks. If anything, he's need to throw the ball away (which he has improved upon). And it wasn't until 2011 that he finally had a decent offensive line in which to protect him, but he's never had DICK for wide receivers.

The bottom line is that the comparison between Cassel and Smith, regardless of the "stats", are absolutely invalid and inconsequential.

No, this fan base isn't content with mediocrity. Hell, this fan base hasn't SEEN mediocrity, well, EVER.

4-12, 2-14, 4-12, 10-6, 7-9, 2-14 is NOT mediocrity.

This team has either been very good or outright shit. For the past six seasons, this team has been outright shit. For the Chiefs to move forward and not lose their entire fan base, they've needed to make moves to at least reach mediocrity.

There's still free agency and the draft ahead. There will likely be cut downs in August as well. I expect this team to improve and if they "only" go 8-8 this season, I'll be stoked.

It sure beats the ****ing hell out of 2-14.

Exactly.

WITH Harbaugh and a SB-caliber surrounding cast, he averaged 200 yards per game. Thank God for the Buffalo game, or his numbers would be even more dismal.

25% of his starts last year resulted in under 150 yards passing.

Only one game over 240 yards.

Brutal.
