Chiefs Final thoughts on preseason - Page 5

This team just looks better. Just all around, even our suck is better than our suck in years past. You can tell we have a staff of coaches that know wtf they are doing. It's refreshing as we haven't seen that since the DV days when you get to it.

Obviously we haven't played a meaningful down yet and you can tell that there is room to improve but I think everyone is getting the sense that we are doing just that, improving. Worst to first? Most likely not but in this division it may not be unreachable.

Offense:
Running game looks rather weak but we were without JC against SF and went against the Steelers the next game. 2 very, very good defenses. So is our running game that bad or were we facing good defenses? Probably some of both.

Smith is going to be the proverbial game manager and if his preseason is any indication of what is to come that can suffice for now. His throws are accurate and receivers aren't jumping, reaching, diving, or sliding to catch passes ala Cassel. Don't turn it over, control the clock, rest the defense. That is a winnable recipe even if it is a boring one.

Tyler Bray......kid is going to be good in 2-3 years. If he pays attention to who he is learning from, we are going to have a bad ass QB.

Defense:
Its on! This defense is getting after it and though it may be a feast or famine defense, it's obvious that the days of Romeo's read-react defense is gone. This is attack, attack and attack some more. I think Poe and TJax are going to take big steps in the right direction this year.

Special Teams:
What can you say? They looked awesome all preseason long.

I see shades of Marty ball coming with a ball control offense, relentless defense and strong special teams. We just replace the power running with dinking and dunking in the passing game.

My prediction is the Oline will make people cringe the first 3-4 weeks and will gel around that time and as Fisher gains playing time and confidence and the middle of the line figure each other out again, the line will be pretty good by Mid October....in time for the division games.

This team's not a great team. If they end up playing beyond their abilities, hey, fun season. No reason to hype myself up for a team I know isn't quite there yet.

Alex Smith is not.

I'm not a big Smith fan and no one can say they've seen me cheering the signing. I'm cautiously optimistic that he's going to be a significant improvement over anything we've had here since Trent Green's eggs were scrambled by the Bengals.

That isn't the same thing as proclaiming him Tom Brady II.

My prediction is(barring injury) Smith ends the season as a 10-15 ranked qb in Yards-TD-INT

It only makes sense. Some are young, some are returning from injuries and they're implementing a new blocking scheme for a new and improved Oline coach.

It will take a little while but that is a recipe for improvement.

Very little. 0 sacks for Hali and Houston. Wide open receivers everywhere. The opposition left two long TDs on the field because of an overthrow and a bobbled ball.

Well, there was that 60 seconds last week.

So, yeah.
