A Sad Story: Why Can't People Leave Harmless Animals Alone?

I read this story on the front page of the KC Star this morning. I drive by Elmwood Cemetery on Truman Road every day on my way to work. I've seen Ella the Deer on a couple of occasions. She was more or less a "pet" inside the cemetery, and didn't harm a soul. Why somebody would shoot this gentle, beautiful animal for no reason is beyond me. Why do people have to be such assholes?

Story is here:

You wanna feed your family? Don't get hand tats at 19 so you can get a ****ing job.

Such bullshit.

I LOVE deer meat, I honestly don't know why more people don't eat it.

It's waaaaay better for you than the shitty meat they're tying to give us in the stores.

But I'm not buying that story for one minute.
At least they ate it, didn't kill just to kill.

I get deer jerky every year from my brothers. I used to go hunting with them but growing up 90 miles away and in a bigger city I've never been big into hunting. But they go every year and they take their deers to a butcher who adds some pork and other shit and makes homemade slimjim type jerky. Shits sooooooo good.

Oh. That's different. Did he think he could get it and not know the gates were locked?

I don't know.

He apparently lived near by because he claims to have been on his front porch when he saw the deer in the cemetery. Then he went to get his gun and jumped a wall to get in the cemetery to shoot it.

So the guy lives near by a cemetery with a resident deer that I guess was pretty famous with the locals and claims he did it to feed his family and didn't know it was tamed? And he shot it with a handgun? Got a real hunter over here.

Ya. Not buyin it.

$1000 and up to a year in jail for killing a deer out of season? Holy crap.

I get why people are upset, but it is just a deer, and it's not like that one particular deer was universally known by everyone who might step foot into the cemetery. Pay a fine, sure, but sending someone to jail for shooting a deer is a bit much.

It was known by the locals. He lived across the street. And his story is strange as ****.

Dumbshit probably turned himself in to collect the award.

If that's what they're getting him on, sure... possibly endangering others... even though a year still seems like a lot. The article just said 'shooting a deer in out of season', which seems petty for a grand + possible jail time.

It would just be kind of dumb for him get jail time because the judge took into account the history of that particular deer within the community. Sad story. People are assholes. Still just a deer.

Poaching is huge in the country. It is worth time in jail.

He's getting off light, imo. He's getting a misdemeanor for what should be a felony for shooting a firearm inside city limits.

Doesn't mean much... in the last house I lived, I went like a year before I met my neighbors, and it's not like it was a sketchy neighborhood. People keep to themselves, it doesn't say he had been there for any length of time, and I could see why neighbors wouldn't randomly chat about a deer in the cemetery.

He could have known and could be full of shit... maybe he was talking with a friend one night, hating on the deer, and someone dared him to kill it. There are a lot of assumptions in thinking he was well aware of the deer though and did it just to be an asshole.

At least that would make sense, for endangering people.
