Leonard Fournette on the trading block..should Veach bite?

A few folks have mentioned this on another thread but I thought it deserved a thread of it's own as media sources, both national and Chiefs associated, have linked the Chiefs to Fournette HERE and HERE

Now, Fournette was obviously a first round pick with tons of hype and potential when he came out and there can be no denying he was sensational in his rookie season HERE where his 1000 yards rushing, 300 yards receiving and 10 TD's helped to guide the Jags to the playoffs where he again showed his class by getting four TD's and 242 yards in the games he played.

The next season as we know Blake Bortals got exposed and the Jags were a mess. He missed half the season due to a ****ling leg injury but still managed to get 400 rushing yards, 185 receiving and six total TD's.

Then came last year HERE and my lord he looked devastating. Yet again he got 1000 yards but this time he notched FIVE HUNDRED receiving yards as well. Way more receiving yards than Damian Williams had last year and more than what Kareem Hunt had in his rookie season.

I think we could probably get him for a modest pick tbh because I think the Jags are gonna try to tank for Lawrence...so probably a 4th rounder for next years draft could do it? Who knows...but a 25 year old talent like this doesn't fall into your lap very often. He'd cost us 4m for this season and then we'd have that fifth year option too. IF he's sensational in those two years then we tag him for another. Three years of Fournette without having to pay major bucks sounds tempting to me as I think he would cause absolute mayhem facing those empty boxes.

8.6 and 10 million.

The Chiefs have NEVER given that much to a RB in a 2-year span in their entire franchise history.

That's where the risk is, dipshit.

Fournette, meanwhile, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is due to make $4.17 million in 2020. If he stays in Jacksonville, he would count $8.64 million against Jacksonville’s salary cap.

Kareem Hunt had 1,300+ rushing yards and 8 TD's during his rookie season alone.

Talent isn't the issue with Williams, it's that he's constantly injured, going back to his days at OU, making him completely unreliable. Add to that, there's not a single back behind him on this roster that puts any fear in opposing defenses and Defensive Coordinators.

Yep.

The Chiefs definitely need to add a true feature back in the 2020 draft but they do not need to waste vital resources and money on Fournette.

I know this guy is just a dumb troll, and as a troll myself I can spot 'em a mile off, but Dane I think the upside is definitely there with Fornette. I don't think we'd be able to get him cheap enough but just hypothetically if all we give up is a 5th for him then the backfield would be seriously explosive. Everything I'm reading is next year he's only about 4 to 5 mil not too bad. And it'll free up our 1st round pick for something OTHER than RB which I don't want them to do.

There are a whole lotta "If" involving Fournette and that doesn't really seem like a move the current Chiefs staff would take, especially given that they'd need to clear at least another $4+ million on top of the $5 million they'll need to clear in order to sign their draft picks.

I think the right play here is to let Jacksonville cut him, then if the Chiefs are interested, inquire about a Vet Minimum deal in order to "restore" his once shiny reputation.

Otherwise, there's just too much risk involved, particularly for a team that has their sights on a second consecutive Super Bowl victory.

I don't see much risk at all. If we got him for a 4th or 5th round pick then he'd be coming into a championship team where he would be facing empty boxes all season and wouldn't have to have as much carries as he would In Jacksonville, thus he'd be fresher during the season. Last season he was good and the tape and stats prove it.

Simply put what provides more value for the Chiefs, a former #4 pick they have to trade a pick for and pay millions to, or a draft pick with at least four years of control who fits the offense better at a fraction of the price.
