With what they're paying Bahktiari, that would mean a pretty huge chunk of their cap if they paid both. I don't know for sure what it would take, but I would imagine that a league average starting LT contract would be too rich for their blood at one position. I've watched a handful of GB games with Nijman at LT. He's not Willie Roaf, but he's just fine. Totally decent. Not a turnstyle. I'd say an average to above average LT. Kind of reminds me of Fisher in his style of play. The reports I've read on him indicate about the same, most are impressed that he's played as well as he has, considering he was an UDFA. Excellent length, they helped him with chips early on, but he's been mostly on an island since the last half of last season. He's sort of their Prince Wanegho, but pressed into service, has played well. |

Can Christian or Prince be that much worse than what OBJ is giving us now? You probably lose out on some run blocking but who the **** cares.

As an UDFA, they can keep him one more year and get nothing, or they can deal. Nobody's going to give a #1. He's their #3 OT, they like Kelly at RT. |

I'm pretty sure you can negotiate with the team that holds the players' rights.
I could be wrong. But that's how I understand it. So they could hold on to him, but he'd certainly leave in '24 for a chance to start somewhere. And as an UDFA I don't think they'd get anything much for him, expecially if he doesn't play at all in '23. Or they could pick up a mid round pick and let him go. That seems like a good move for them. |

Yeah GB isn’t doing that. The guy is a competent LT for pennies. Your starting LT just had a major injury. Keep the guy as long as you can at that price point and if he’s as good as you all claim they’ll get a 3rd rd comp for him when his contract is through and some team pays him.
If you want to offer a 1st or 2nd though they’d be fools to turn that down. But again we aren’t giving them that for the guy

You're not likely to get much in comp. |

So you'd have to give up a pick and pay him. You'd probably have to pay him around what Noteboom got?
I don't think it's an option but it's ateast realistic. So me being me....I reject. |

Looking around draft sites, it seems like Jaelyn Duncan's stock IS shoooting up. Which is a bummer, because (1) I like his fit with KC (2) he's got a great last name.
But if his stock gets into Top 10 territory, it's time to take him off the board. Zion Nelson is another T that really stands out to me. When you look at his scouting report, it does smack of a guy who can really outplay his draft position. He's newer to the position and needs to refine technique. He also is like 20 months removed from a playing weight of 240-250 pounds at a different position. So you keep making him stronger in a pro weight program and you keep helping him refine his technique. Meanwhile, he's already strong in pass pro and has some of those dancing bear tendencies (already showing he can maintain his foot quickness despite packing on 40-50 pounds).

Now everyone's coming back healthy. So it's not likely unless Bahktiari is unable to finish the season that Nijman will play. You guys could be right, maybe they will just hold on to him one more year, but I don't think the comp for him leaving after '23 would be nearly as high as this offseason. |
