Sources: Cards Todd Haley to be next Chiefs coach

League sources told the Daily News that GM Scott Pioli has targeted Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley to replace Herman Edwards, but doesn't want to kick him out the door until Haley officially accepts the job, which can't be offered until after the Super Bowl. -- Philadelphia Daily News

To Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli for his inexcusable treatment of the team's dead-coach-walking, Herm Edwards. Pioli, who was hired nearly 2 weeks ago, continues to let Edwards twist in the wind. He says he still hasn't made a decision on Edwards' fate, yet already has let three of Herm's assistants - defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, secondary coach David Gibbs and special-teams coach Mike Priefer - leave to take other jobs.
League sources told the Daily News that Pioli has targeted Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley to replace Edwards, but doesn't want to kick him out the door until Haley officially accepts the job, which can't be offered until after the Super Bowl.

Pioli also seems to be as paranoid as the guy he used to work for in New England - Bill Belichick. The Kansas City Star recently sent a writer to Pioli's hometown to do a harmless Scott's-roots feature. When Pioli found out, he called former teammates, classmates and neighbors and instructed them not to speak to the reporter. Beautiful.

I'm well aware that it's Pioli's decision to make. I'm equally certain that I'm not going to blindly accept it as the move to make just because he made it.

Poor Herm.

At any moment he can void his contract by taking a rewarding job coaching corner backs or linebackers and be done with evil Pioli but he wants his $3 million dollars for nothing more than being so incompetent they would rather part with the money than deal with his sorry ass again.

If they are actually making Herm twist and turn until then, and with the way Clark seems to feel about him, I bet they will reward him by keeping him in some capacity. Maybe as head scout or something.

running a productive offense with all the talent his has in Arizona is NOT a big accomplishment imo.

If he is the choice, I would support him. In fact I was a bit intrigued at first when he was being rumored. But the more I think about it the more I remember the main reason I don't care much for Parcells is the way he berates his players in public. Be it on the sideline or by calling them "she" in press conferences. Haley seems to be Parcells.2, in that regard.

So following this article's logic... if Pioli offers the head coaching vacancy to Todd Haley and he declines, is he going to keep Herm as the head coach?

At this point Herm can't be retained. If Haley rejects the offer, Plan B can't include Herm.

They're not going to officially interview anyone until Herm is fired. No one has ever "offically" interviewed a HC candidate while the old HC still had the job. Common sense and common decency.
