So I just sent BP a solution to stop the oil leak

I may be a hero. I'll let you know!

Can anybody tell me how much pressure is at that depth ?

Just send Flopnut's Rep Power down. It will plug the leak in no time.

Yes, I wonder how much pressure is behind the oil spewing ? The way this idea works , it will seal it off fairly slowly so that should help. I presented them the concept , the Engineers will have to tweak it.

I'm waiting for a response from BP, then I'll unvail my idea , which may be stupid. Who knows exactly what you're dealing with at those depths.

They promised a response but said lots of ideas are coming in and they have to sort through them. But they have a team addressing responses.

Nothing much worth adding to this statement, you pretty much summed that one up. I can't really buy you a beer over the intrawebs, so I'll just do the rep thingy instead.

That is the ambient pressure at that water depth. What is unknown is the pressure of the flow of oil coming out of the wellhead. That is why there is no true accurate measurement of how much oil is leaking.

Most equipment for a field of this type and depth is 10K PSI.

The extra pressure related to flow is negligible. Estimates of the leak are 2.5 million gallons per day. Through a 22 inch pipe, that isn't all that much. The velocity of the oil in the pipe is only about 2.5 ft/sec, so we're not talking about a lot of additional energy, relatively speaking.

I'm thankfully moving back to MO in a week, but right now I live in the Florida panhandle. The oil has not gotten to the beaches here yet, but it is likely just a matter of time. The hotels, resorts, and restaurants are all in full panic down here now. It has also ruined the offshore fishing and that pisses me off.

It also pisses me off that the video posted above was filmed in the same county I live in right now. While the idea of using hay/straw may not be the worst idea, seeing Jim-Bob in his bib overalls probably won't instill confidence in the potential tourists. I mean, why go all the way to Florida when you can go to Alabama and see guys that look like that?
I use to visit Niceville/Destin as often as I could. The locals were hillbillies of sorts, but you never had to worry about locking your doors.

I would hate to see this mess reach the white sandy shores of Destin, Fl, that place is beautiful. There are several theories out there about how bad this really is, but on one is giving the same answer. Does anyone know how truly bad this is going to be for us? It seems this is going to be the worse oil accident in history. Forgive me if the answer is obvious, I have been working on finals, not watching television.
