Football Would you try to acquire Merriman? - Page 5

Apparently the Chargers are putting him on the trade block. He hasn't been good at all lately.

With that said, would you try to acquire him for say a 5th or 6th rounder to have his rights next year if it's uncapped?

Or is he finished at the ripe age of 27?

I think this defense needs someone who can potentially collapse a pocket, so I say yes, but I also get too hung up on guys who performed well years ago.

Thoughs?

they need to wait till he blows out a knee and gets a concussion first, then sign him in the offseason when he's cut and then cut him with no injury settlement

Yeah, absolutely. I'd trade AJ Smith a 6th rounder for Merriman. In a heartbeat.

Then, I'd have him practice and "Ooops!", put him on IR.

I'd have my team doctor prescribe HGH for the next seven months to cure what ails him.

He'd be a monster next year again.

If this is true then you have to do it easily. For a late round pick a guy who is more talented than any scrub we have as a rush backer would be huge. It has been said many times that it takes two years to fully recover from a knee injury like he had. If we trade for him and he heals in the offseason and has a huge year next year we look like we actually know something if not hey at least we are trying and it is only a late round pick

I saw Roidman on a Fedor mma highlight video talking about Fedor, a few days later he was in the news for choking out his Tila Tequilla girlfriend. He's a tool with a gimp leg and his career is finished.

He is still far and away better then anything we have. So yes, if just a 4th, I would go for it in a heart beat.

Hes 27. Same age as Cassel. We got Cassel for a 2nd and half this board had to change their shorts they were so excited. Merriman for a 4th is great value. He is having an off year. Oh gee, he blew out his knee. Thats bound to happen. I would much rather get a proven vet in their prime then take a chance on a 4th round pick. Thats just my opinion though.
