Misc Cities to move to... - Page 5

So I've lived in MO all my life and the wife and I are contemplating moving next year outside of the state...just wanted to get some thoughts from those who have lived elsewhere besides KCMO or thought about it too.

I'm kinda open to anywhere but I've had a few people tell me that out west is the way to go...heard Boulder, Salt Lake City, and Reno are all nice. Actually had a buddy tell me Wisconsin (Madison specifically) is nice too.

So if any of you were going to move elsewhere where would you suggest?

Tons to do and all 4 professional teams. Very low cost of living. It doesn't have a big city feel because it is so spread out so traffic is pretty good most of the time. You do have to get used to driving though and the miles on your car add up quick. People seem to kind of stick to themselves which you can see as either good or bad.

But we love it here and are not leaving for a very long time.

If you're leaving the Midwest, you should go somewhere coastal. I love Florida, beach, sun, repeat!!

Been there a few times, sorry, but I have to disagree... My brother that lives there even says "military and meth heads" I've visited south Denver a lot as well, much better crowd in my opinion. Also have a brother in Durango co, that is a fun little town, but expensive

I saw a news segment the other day where Forbes had named a "coolest cities" list. The news talkers (CNN, I think) were reacting to it, and it was hilarious. You could tell they were east coasters, because they looked at the list below, and they only discussed New York, Washington, and Miami, and threw in Los Angeles as a "yeah, of course they're going to be on there". I am not sure how they ranked cool but Washington, DC and Bethesda are not exactly places I think of when I think cool. I have lived in the DC area and Austin and Houston have much better vibe and an actual distinct culture. DC was mostly overpaid GS-whatevers and Yinzers.

Boise, Idaho. If you can get on the out skirts it's a great place to live. It's in the top 5 in the nation for raising a family. People are polite, not alot of crime. Lots of stuff outdoors to do and only about 45 minutes from being deep into forrest areas. Cost of living isn't terribly high. It's about average for what salaries are around here. It's a little smaller than SLC and Portland so it has a lot more of a home town feel then those but still feels big. I HATE SLC and portland is a cool town but dirty. Reno is Meh but it's nevada. 99% of Nevada is just blah. Spokane is referred to as Spo-compton. It's 70% s***hole. Seattle is outrageous to live. Don't know about Colorado so can't comment. Arizona most parts are nice but it's hot if you can get past that.

If your thinking mountainy and out west though i would most definitely look into Boise, Idaho. I've been here my whole life and although locals always complain and want out of here everyone always comes back. It's just to good here unfortunately

Seattle is awesome. Landscape, variety of activities, their economy is blowing up all over again (in a good way), and some of the best food in the country due to the place being a huge melting pot of ethnicity.

The downsides are the cost of living is through the roof. They don't have a state income tax, but they more than make up for it with the increased taxes across the board in all other areas. Except food. No tax on unprepared food. Gas is always half a dollar more a gallon than anywhere else, and property values, and taxes are sky high. It is also an incredibly liberal area, so if you're not leaning that way politically, it will drive you nuts.

We've lived in Branson for 4 years now, and we're about to spread our wings again ourselves. The advantage to not having kids is I can travel where ever I want, whenever I want. I also work in a field that literally allows me to live just about anywhere on Earth that I want too.

We're considering Vegas, Destin, Fl, the Keys, and possibly Breckenridge/Vail but are still in the planning stages and could easily add too, or subtract from that list in the near future.

Thanks! Wife is pushing for Vegas...I love it out there but I just wonder about raising our daughter (10 months old) out there.
