I don't see how this makes him a dumbass. The guy comes from a rich family and is going to graduate from freaking STANFORD. That alone makes him already a success.

Money is money. It will still be there next year. Look at Sam Bradford - he had the worst junior season you could possibly imagine having and still went No. 1 overall. Short of getting his arm sawed off, Luck will likely still go No. 1 next year.

Luck's parents' money isn't his money. Furthermore, I highly doubt they're "we don't need $50 million" rich.

And as for getting a degree from Stanford - so? He can get that in the offseason. Spare me the degree crap, that has nothing to do with his ability to declare for the draft. (P.S. I know a guy with a PhD from Stanford and he's a research chemist making $45K, so let's dial down the rhetoric a bit.

If he goes out there and plays well but not elite, he could very well fall back in the draft. A regression of any sort will be a warning flag to NFL teams. Disagree with it if you'd like, but it happens every time.

I just don't think this is wise at all.

Luck isn't making $50 even if he comes out. The only thing he's risking is some sort of career ending injury, and well...that's not a particularly likely scenario.

Add to the fact that he'll have a new coach next year...this could be one big ass fail on his part.

how exactly does graduating help him in the NFL?

Look at Leinart and look at Locker. Locker went from being the #1 overall pick to not even being in the top 3 of his own position.

If he has some concussions next year or he jus plays terrible, he will likely slide down the board.

Locker wasn't going to be the top pick. People need to get over these premature internet reports. If Clausen didn't declare last year and had an off year, people would be saying he would have been a top 5 pick.

How does leaving help him in the NFL? All it does is help him get more money right away. Not everyone is motivated by money.

Staying an extra year isn't going to change how successful he is in the NFL. If he's truly a great player, he'll have a great NFL career and make tons of money wherever he's picked.

hat's right, a year after the St. Louis Rams signed first-round quarterback Sam Bradford to a six-year, $78 million contract, with $50 million in guaranteed money, Luck would be signing a six-year deal worth $19.94 million.
.

This decision is monumentally stupid. What does he gain by staying? His degree? The thing that he'll never have to use after leaving the NFL?

Kietzman calling Gabbert "the happiest man in football right now." He has "a legitimate chance" to be the first overall pick.

So, unfortunately he's going to drop to the fourth round now.

I'm surprised so many people get uptight over the fact that Al Davis handed over too much guaranteed money to Jamarcus Russell. Do you think the Falcons or Rams are unhappy with how they spent their rookie QB money? The Jets?

The NFL works. There really isn't a need to change things up.
