I think that it's an intentional strategy to claim that "the other side" is trying to destroy the country, because that creates an urgency not to solve problems but to choose a side and always vote for it to keep "the other side" from doing so.

The real revolution in this country is when people choose to kick out all of the incumbents and start fresh with candidates who are not part of the two major party structures.

I don't think any of us believe that the people in this country who tend to vote Republican are trying to turn the nation into a religious theocracy. And I don't think any of us really believe that the people in this country who tend to vote Democrat are trying to turn the nation into a socialist wasteland. Those are political talking points that are designed intentionally to scare and disgust people.

Vote third party. Vote out incumbents. Let's have a real revolution.
I thought we were closer to that several years ago... there seemed to not just be less divisive talk, but more discussion around the common enemy of corruption and so forth.

I think that's why Obama's campaign worked, despite sounding extremely salesman-ly about it... and then we tired of that and though shit, what if we don't even elect a politician this time?!? And now it's significantly worse.

We could really use moderates who rely more on experts around them than propping up their own ideals solely for the sake of "owning the libs" or undoing what was just done.... but, they would absolutely get eaten alive by both sides in this climate.

Yet that 50% only exists because.... ?

I mean, it's not any reasonable person wants to rip up the Constitution and we can talk "slippery slope of cancel culture" and all that, but there are some pretty clear lines that get crossed in terms of batshit crazy conspiracies and existing only to call each other pedos, etc.... just like the Lounge.

I think my other concern is something that I was thinking about the other day. I briefly wandered in there to see if there was anything interesting, and I'm struck be the extreme amount of negativity. Everyone posting in there is convinced that the world is ending, and I think they feed off of each other to an unhealthy degree. To some extent, ye reap what ye sow, and having constant expectations that the world is ending does not help a person succeed. Are we doing people a disservice by giving them a place where they can talk about their negative worldviews and find willing conversation partners? I wish we instead had a place where people could talk about finding solutions to the world's problems and positive innovations that are happening.

There was some short-lived "science party" about ten years ago that I was really excited about. Their platform was something like, "we'll promote policies that are based on research that proves that they're effective toward addressing our common societal goals." They were around for one election or maybe two, but no one voted for them because the major political parties convinced people that it was "wasting a vote" and that "you have to vote for (party A) to keep (party B) out of power".

I really don't understand how people don't see through that ruse. It's so obvious.

They must control everything...moving on is not an option for someone with a propensity for authoritarianism...and an intrinsic narcissistic belief that world revolves around them.

There is no room in this stunted reality for dissent and questioning...they already know all there is to know. Anything that contradicts this illusion is now "misinformation". They like all-encompassing labels and stereotypes...really streamlines having to rely on facts.

What are your goals for the world, and what do you think my goals are? I reach a hand across the gap of perspectives to find common ground, and then we can proceed from there.

Mostly real life crossover and having a shred of human decency... we aren't going to just have a blanket "it's okay to look up people IRL and post their shit in DC, just not the Lounge".

And that's not crazy uncommon, either. There really aren't many non-negotiable items in DC, but besides the pedo ridiculousness that DC got carried away with, I'd really hope people could agree no one should be ****ed with off the board or relentlessly followed around by weirdos across forums, etc. Yet, it happens and it's a big reason why nuking DC gets brought up.

There is no common ground to find with communists. They want all property to be nationalized and the former property holders get shot in the back of the head. Mass graves ensue.

I was referring to your post #204 taking a passive aggressive jab at Ops

Your price idea while interesting has failed in my experience in another forum long ago. I used to hang out for years in a hunting forum and it was a blast 24/7. After a few years, the administrator decided to charge a nominal fee to enter the forum. It was cheap like $20.00/year. It was suggested it would keep the riff riff out and clean things up for the serious folks. I paid for the first year because I really enjoyed the forum and learned quite a bit about numerous issues however I quickly found that many of the best posters refused to stay because they simply didn't believe in needing to subscribe to an Internet forum. Suddenly the forum wasn't as fun or busy as it once was and soon enough, there would only be a handful of posts a day. Maybe one dozen tops. It grew stagnant and I left after a few months. A handful of folks found other forums and a few started a FB group but I never did find a hunting/outdoors forum that ever replaced original forum that was as fun and high octane.
