Good luck selling that to Bills fans.

Remember that guy we took 16th overall last year - the guy we sold you as the future of the franchise?

Well, **** him. We're paying $18M for a 30 year old that played 6 good games in KC last season.
What's it matter with the fan base then?

If thats the case, good luck selling it to Chiefs fans.

You have a better chance at building a good team and then finding a solid QB to fit into your system than you would at finding the next Peyton Manning and having him turn your entire franchise around.
I don't care where you get your QB you have to do everything in your power to support him. You can have an old man like Gannon or Warner or a young guy like Wilson or Ruthlessrapist.

Either way - you need to protect your QB and give him targets in the passing game. Not even Tom Brady makes a SB without legit threats at WR. Not even Warner wins without an O line.

We have done nothing to improve a mostly unproductive group of WR's and have let our O line fall apart. We're attempting to plug in a bunch of JAG's and hope they can protect a QB that takes a lot of sacks and has few legit targets.

And on TOP of that the argument is being made it's a good idea to overpay for very average production at the QB position...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Seems to be more "get a guy that's fit for our system, build around him while continually looking for the next guy".

I dunno. I just don't think there's that much of a gap today between the 15th best Qb in the league and the 8th like there once was.

Obviously it's easier to win with a better QB, but it doesn't seem to be the multiplying factor it used to be.
I'm not sure which league you're watching, because over the last 10 years, most SB's have been won by elite QB's, with a couple won by above average QB's with historic defenses.

We probably have the biggest blind homer fanbase in the league.

Doctor: So, take this ape semen and shoot it up your nostrils three times a day. That should get rid of the allergies.

ChiefsFan: Well, that doesn't sound right...but...I guess we'll just have to try it for a year or two before passing judgement...

As for Buffalo, that's going to be new ownership. They're not going to be invested in Manuel if he disappoints again this season.

It's a bad business decision and impossible to sell to the fanbase.

We didn't pay two R1 picks for Smith first of all, and I don't recall anyone from the organization selling him as the future of the franchise.

And again, here's someone comparing a young, talented player with a ton of potential to a 30 year old whose career season resulted in being a middle tier guy.

Manning, Brees and Rodgers are elite sure.

Are you inferring that Rothlisberger (2) Eli, (2), Brady 2 and Wilson were all elite when they won?

I guess we have different definitions of elite.

I'll go ahead and say all 3 of the QBs you are questioning are better than Smith.

I don't care who the team is, though I do find it funny that some of you think two of the stingier franchises in the league would pay a 31 year old Alex Smith damn near $20M per.

By all accounts, had Andy Reid not ended up in KC, Alex Smith would have been CUT. There was no market for Alex Smith at $8M per season.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks someone will pay 2.5X that amount next season. Personally, I hope KC gives them the chance, so I can laugh at that team like some of you all laugh at teams like SF, Chicago and Dallas.

Yes, I meant 2nd round picks there.

I guess you missed the press conference where Reid proclaimed that they were going to put Smith into the HOF or something of the like.

You're essentially saying Manuel is a young talented player with a ton of upside because he got drafted where he did. What has he shown, in terms of playing Qb in the NFL that he's worth that up to this point?

If he's a young talented player with a ton of upside, so is Fisher and we shouldn't be worried.

Teams will pay what teams have to pay. The salary floor guarantees that moving forward.

I don't know what Smith is going to get. I just know that recent signings have strengthened his hand.

And you putting the Jets, Bills, Titans and Raiders in the 'set' category was insanity.

exactly. While Big Ben was a good QB, he was backed by a top D. Eli, while he did make a few clutch passes, it was the pass rush than won them the superbowls. Adam Vinatieri won the first couple super bowls for Brady. Wilson was carried by one of the most dominant D the league has seen in years.

I don't understand this reasoning at all.

Kaepernick got a huge contract.

Ok?

Kaepernick took that team farther than Smith in his first year starting.

Smith has 1 ****ing playoff win in 9 years. How the **** does his hand get strengthened?

Don't agree with that though.

Those guys may not be, have been, elite at that time, they were absolutely key cogs at them winning SB's.

They weren't carried by anything.
