part of the reason why the Chiefs struggle imo is because Carl puts too much on the coaches.

Just like the article mentions .... coaches have too many "other things" that can influence their perspective on a given player.


Coaches should have input on the player interviews and what type of player is needed for their system. The scouts and personal dept should take over after that.

But imo ... Carl is too afraid to take that responsibility on himself and his scouts so he puts in on the coaches. That way when stuff goes wrong publicly the coaches take the heat ...... then in a couple of years that coach gets fired and Peterson is still safe.

There are other times, personnel executives sometimes find out after the draft, when coaches try to pay back a favor to a coaching buddy in college and will consequently stand on the table for a player his buddy coached, highly recommending him.

It's why our 1st-day drafts are weak. Our 2nd-day drafts have traditionally been pretty good, for the same reason.

With Herm on board, good thing, IMO. Clearly it was a bad deal with the previous coaches.

When Carl told Vermeil to STFD and picked a player it worked out pretty well for the team.

Davis did not like Deuce McAllister, either. With the third overall pick, Davis opted for Florida DT Gerard Warren, two picks ahead of where San Diego drafted Tomlinson, the premier back in football today.

What's even funnier about that bit regarding Butch Davis and the Browns, is Shanny went and scavenged those very same players that Davis evaluated and drafted, making the very same mistakes. Granted, much less costly mistakes, but the same.

I do like Herm in the draft. His scouting skills have already brought in some good players. Let's hope he can find some future Pro Bowlers in this year's draft.
