Just watched that tirade recently on it's 32rd anniversary. It never gets old. The phone discuss. The long john underwear. The bottle of cheap vodka. And a tapestry of profanity that is still hanging somewhere over East Raytown...

We had guys that could really get pissed off back then. Pine Tar George flying out of the dugout is still the winner of all time.

That was Alan "Scoop" Eskew, a beat reporter for the Topeka Capital-Journal. You can hear McRae utter "Scoop" in regret after he realizes he hurt a reporter he liked. That is at about 52 seconds into the video, about two seconds before we see Eskew bleeding. Eskew considers McRae a favorite player, as do I. Years later, when McRae was coaching the Rays and was visiting Royal Stadium, Scoop showed up wearing a catchers mask, and they laughed about it. Ruston Dodd wrote about this in this piece, https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/319...s-famous-rant/
