Look, Dee Ford is like a scratch-off ticket. There's a 1-in-2500 chance he's a $500 grand prize winner. There's a 1-in-2 chance he's a free ticket or a $25 instant winner.

I'd gladly pay $1 for a scratcher. There's no way on God's green earth I would pay $25 for it, which is essentially what you're doing by tagging Ford.

It's a risk i'd take.

Dee Ford has had one good year. He's such a playmaker he couldn't even get on the field until his 3rd season.

I don't want average guys, I want guys that can actually be available for 16 games more than once every 2 or 3 years and guys that are smart enough to play both the run and pass.

I’m not enamored with paying a guy huge money that averages 1 INT and 6 PD’s in 3/4 seasons. One good year doesn’t mean big money IMO

Yes, I realize he’s going to get paid and similar to Ford’s franchise tag.

I don’t care.

He’s younger. He’s healthier. He is more versatile and can defend the run and rush the passer. He’s smarter.

Ford is a one-dimensional player who can be exploited by good teams and neutralized. I’m not backing up the truck for that.

If I can swap the salary allocation to a more complete, reliable player AND add some draft capital, that’s a win all the way around.

Some people are acting like Ford is prime Justin Houston, and he just isn’t.

I've called Ford a one trick pony a bunch of times and honestly he is...If you think he's soft or injury prone lining him up at end is going to make those issues become more glaring..

Many players have recovered from poor NFL combine performances and gone on to have tremendously productive careers, so maybe Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite shouldn’t feel too bad about what happened in Indianapolis this weekend at the 2019 NFL Combine. But, man, the guy could not have had a worse time at the annual showcase for draft prospects.



We’ll start on the field, where Polite turned in an underwhelming performance in the 40-yard-dash before pulling himself from the rest of the drills due to a hamstring injury that he had, apparently, been dealing with for 10 days.



Polite is seen as a first-round prospect because of his freakish athletic ability so this 40-yard-dash will not do him any favors…

He’s an undersized prospect who really needed to wow scout with his workouts. That did not happen.

Polite’s interviews with the media were even more concerning than his on-field work. He specifically called out several teams for grilling him during interviews, which is actually pretty standard during these combine meetings.

Polite did seem to have a good interview with the Rams, who did not scrutinize his play.

“Responds well to constructive criticism” is not a box Polite checked off this weekend. And it gets worse from there: A reporter asked the Florida product on how he tried to improve the weaknesses he saw in his film during the lead-up to the draft. His response was, um, interesting…

“I don’t really focus on — it’s just natural. That’s just how I play. I never really even watch myself that much to know that. That’s crazy.”



Even if it is true that Polite isn’t a big fan of self-scouting, YOU DON’T ADMIT THAT DURING WHAT’S BASICALLY YOUR JOB INTERVIEW. Polite is a raw prospect who will need to develop more pass rush moves to make an impact in the league. If he’s not actively working to better himself, team’s will rightfully be concerned. This is a terrible look.



Luckily for Polite, he still has his pro day to right all of these wrongs. Florida’s Pro Day takes place on March 27.

I’m seeing the potential method to Veach’s madness, but it is contingent on a couple of things.

If they can get at least a top 45 pick for Ford, I think he will be gone. And Houston will obviously be cut more than likely. Cut Sorensen and you’ve got near $45M in cap space for 2019.

But you can’t get rid of those two (Ford/Houston) and not add some new foundational pieces along the way. If they don’t sign a player or two such as Landon Collins, Trey Flowers, Anthony Barr, etc., then it comes off a lot like a punt on the 2019 season.

But if you do go out there and make a couple of signings to set your defense up decently heading into the draft with potentially 4 picks in the top 63 and 5 picks in the top 100, you then have a shot to really add depth and playmakers on both sides of the ball. That extra pick might be what they need to feel comfortable drafting a C/G on day two, or a TE. It’ll open their options much more.

Did Jachai Polite have an agent? Aren't they supposed to prepare the players for the combine? What a disaster. Maybe we can get him in the 3rd round now?

They'd obviously be adding something but 37 million for 2 guys who basically never stay healthy is pretty steep...also when you hire a whole new staff for that side it's to see that you may see a huge amount of change.
