That was one of the most heinously upsetting wins I can remember.

Special teams is just a fucking dumpster fire. Brinser was terrible all night; the return team couldn’t stop committing blocks in the back 15 yards away from the action; kick coverage was a goddamned abomination; field goal block team got caught with their heads up their collective asses; hands team looks like they got caught shoplifting in Saudi Arabia; and, of fucking course, cuntbag Baggett was the fucking rat cunt he always is. Scholarship kicker missing two XPs in one game, which completely altered the complexion of the fourth quarter.

Steckel deserves a 2x4 to the kidneys for turning a dominant defense into a toothless one with the prevent bullshit he ran out there. That allowed Tennessee the opportunity to let the refs try and fuck up and fuck us on those onside kick abominations.

What in the fucking fuck were those idiot refs doing? It’s not hard to state what fouls occurred before the review. In fact, it’s your fucking job. Do it, your cornpone, trisomy-having-motherfucker.

Snapping the ball with six seconds left on the playclock in a kill situation was a special kind of fucktarded as well.

I should not have to be this pissed off of an eight point road win, but goddamn if they didn’t try to lay the foundation for one of the biggest, dumbest collapses in the history of college football.

That was shameful shit.

That had to be the absolute worst collective special teams performance in the history of organized football, and it's all the more amazing because they managed to fuck up that extensively without allowing a return TD.

They turned a game that, without Steckel going prevent, would have been 31-3 w/ DII level special teams to 29-21 and two onside recoveries in a row that were only negated by penalty. Two straight onside kick plays and we didn't have a single player touch a football with his hands.

It'll be a lot like the Georgia game, I think. The defense will be strong but will tire out as Mauk fails to put together drives.

That is if Alabama is Mizzou's opponent. If Mizzou would play Mississippi State then things change. Mauk could actually hurt that team with the deep ball, and the defense showed tonight that they can contain a QB who wants to keep the ball up the middle.

Mauk is the very definition of infuriating. Makes some of the biggest WTF decisions/plays, then turns around and makes great throws to Sasser and Hunt for long touchdowns. I sincerely hope Pinkel gives Lock a legit chance at earning the starting job next year.

I've seen a couple of Locks games this year, he's a good qb. That would be something if he earned the starting job as a true freshman.

Thanks for typing all the things that were going on in my head during that game.....I don't know who the Special Team coach is, but he should be delivering pizza by tomorrow morning instead of being on a D-1 Coaching staff.

That was a special type of stupid that they exhibited out there tonight. I think the Mizzou Special Teams coach was the only one who wasn't thinking maybe Butch Jones might try a fake field goal. I was screaming it at the TV when they lined up.

And the Onsides Kick.....if that was the "Hands Team" out there someone must have substituted Vaseline for "stick-em" just before that travesty.

And Baggett......he should be made to go back out onto the field and be forced to try 10 FG's from medium depth. If he can't make all 10 then he should be forced to find his own way home from Knoxville.

It's a good thing our Defense was so pissed off from hearing from all the talking heads that there was no way they would stop the juggernaut Tennessee offense and Josh Gibbs and that the Vols would beat us.

Chappel and McNulty were horrible tonight. With that said, we could not run left all night, and it was frustrating that we kept trying when we did have success going right. Off of Boehm and McGovern is the only place we could run.

And aside from Hunt's great TD catch, he played one of the all time stinkbombs from an MU WR.

Arkansas has been lights out vs LSU and Ole Miss in consecutive weeks. They didn't give up a single point. Couple that with the fact that all the pressure is on Mizzou and we have a recipe for a Baggett kick.

Since the game is in Missouri that helps some. It's going to be a hell of a ride.

If they do win vs Arky who wins the West? Didn't Miss St beat Alabama? Do they hold the tiebreaker? I could see where Mizzou wins and gets left out of any playoff discussion because Mizzou.

It's hard for me to get a read on this game. Everyone hypes the Hogs run game, but I haven't been real happy with our ability to physically exert our will on actual SEC teams beyond the first scripted drive. A lot of that is our OC's inclination to abandon the run, pass in obvious or dumb situations, try to get cute, and not play to our strengths (sound familiar Chiefs fans?).

Our defense is fantastic and becoming increasingly opportunistic. Kind of similar to Ole Miss with good/bad Bo, I think a lot of this game will come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes and can effectively move the chains in obvious passing situations.

That was a garbage time TD. Calling it a one score loss is a semantic cop out. There wasn't a moment where Alabama was ever in trouble in that game.

Their victories look far less impressive in the rear view mirror.

Alabama had a lost fumble reversed by replay into a touchdown. That call doesn't get overturned, and MSU may have won...and winning in Death Valley is always impressive.

Doesn't change the fact that it could have just as easily been upheld. You're acting like it was a beating. It was a close loss to the number one team in the country. It is their only loss all year. If they get into the playoffs by going 11-1, they won't have backed in.

It's also a good example of why garbage time scores matter to perception. Them scoring with 15 seconds left had no effect on the outcome of the game but it allows their advocates to suggest that they were closer than they really were.

...and Mizzou wound up 12-2 and ranked top 5 by the time it was all said and done. I think one of us was vindicated about the quality of Mizzou's season last year while the other pulled the eject lever for the umpteenth time yet again this season.

Before you decide to lecture me yet again about being disingenuous, perhaps you should re-read your OP and let it serve as a reminder that pessimism isn't a synonym for realism.

If MSU ends up 11-1, they will have won at Death Valley, at Ole Miss and at home against aTm, Arkansas, and Auburn with their only loss being by 5 at Alabama. In the real world, people call that an impressive resume. You prefer to call it backing into a four team playoff....which is comical.

What's also comical is saying that MSU was dominated by Alabama. MSU had more rushing yards than Alabama. They had more passing yards than Alabama. They had nearly 100 more total yards than Alabama. They had more time of possession than Alabama. They had 26 first downs to Alabama's 17.

Alabama won that game because State's Heisman candidate QB was banged up and played like crap turning the ball over three times while Alabama's only turnover was reversed by a questionable replay and called a touchdown.

You've dug in your heels here, and that's fine. You'll have to forgive me if I find the case you've laid out severely lacking.

The Hogs are coming to town, after a 3 game stretch against three top 17 teams (all SEC) and only giving up 17 in in a narrow loss to #1 Miss State.

47-0 against #17 LSU and #8 Ole Miss

This team has had a brutal f'ing schedule, and after narrow defeats early on... it's turning around and I think this team can play with anyone in the land right now.

Mizzou - yeah, you're going down. Four straight cupcakes to open the year and playing in a down SEC East.

The Hogs will win this by 13.

Yeah, I don't bet on games. I've seen the Hogs play good football in some tough losses. Over the last month, they've played really well. So, traveling Columbia isn't as frightful. And, I don't think I'm going out on any limbs here.

I think Friday's game will be a good one... but I have to LOL at the Arkansas fans predicting a blowout.

Missouri defense just keeps getting underrated, especially the interior DL.

Missouri goes 4 deep in the middle with quality guys, and the two reserves are probably better than the two starters. Ray and Golden are both explosive players who are effective against both phases of the game.

This is the best Missouri defense in my lifetime. With the emergence of Kenya Dennis (and change in philosophy to allow less cushion for WRs), there really are no weaknesses in that unit. And the front 4 is excellent (and 9 deep).

Missouri has held every team it has faced significantly below its rushing average (YPA) - yes, even Georgia. I don't expect that to change on Friday.

ARK defintely has momentum...they've played lights-out the past two weeks. They also have a huge OL, but I think we hold them below their average run game output. I hope we knock the snot out of Jonathan Williams as an added bonus.

I called it a 13 point win, dunno if I call that a blowout.

Looking at the schedules these two have played, the Hogs are going to be more than ready. Hell, the Hogs could very well lose - it was only 3 weeks ago we were 0-17 in SEC play with this crew, 2-0 since then... I like our chances, definitely on a huge upward swing.

Hog's starting quarterback, Brandon Allen, is questionable. His brother, Austin, did decent backup work against Ole Miss, but there's certainly a drop off there, especially against a brutal Mizzou pass rush.

AJ Derby is also questionable, and he's our primary receiving threat outside of Hunter Henry. We've also recently kicked (most likely) Korliss Marshall off the team, who was our big play and return specialist. Even if he remains on the team (not likely), he certainly won't be playing this weekend.

Yeah, honestly at this point - a win (3 straight vs SEC) would be more than I imagined a few weeks ago. Hogs are ending on a high note, either way. I'd love for them to find a more capable QB. Allen is ok, but not much more than that...

I predict that BA will have a really good year next year. I know he isn't flashy, but he's been pretty hampered by surrounding cast, playcalling, and injury. The value of a quality senior QB in this league can't be overemphasized, imo.

I'm certainly looking forward to Ty Storey getting on campus, but I think BA's career in Arkansas will look much more favorable in hindsight than current viewpoint.

Georgia was an anomaly (easily our worst all around performance of the year). We actually were missing our middle linebacker Brooks Ellis for that game, and he's the QB of the defense.

A&M was really early in the year when Robb Smith was just getting them going. We'll see, but the defense for Arkansas has been dominant the last two weeks.

So, both teams lost to Georgia and Mizzou beat A&M a few weeks ago while the Hogs lost to A&M.

Hogs scored 32 vs Georgia, lost by 13.
Hogs scored 28 vs A&M, lost by 7 in OT when they were ranked #6.

A lot of it is timing - A&M was undefeated still at that point and I would guess the Hogs could maintain that lead at this point.

Splice the stats up however you like them. Against those two teams, the Hogs scored 60 points while giving up 80. Mizzou scored 34 points while giving up 61 points.

We can do this stuff all day long, extrapolating this stat against that stat... bottom line is, this Razorback team playing now is on a different level compared to a month ago.

Should be a fun game.

...and Mizzou wound up 12-2 and ranked top 5 by the time it was all said and done. I think one of us was vindicated about the quality of Mizzou's season last year while the other pulled the eject lever for the umpteenth time yet again this season.

Before you decide to lecture me yet again about being disingenuous, perhaps you should re-read your OP and let it serve as a reminder that pessimism isn't a synonym for realism.

If MSU ends up 11-1, they will have won at Death Valley, at Ole Miss and at home against aTm, Arkansas, and Auburn with their only loss being by 5 at Alabama. In the real world, people call that an impressive resume. You prefer to call it backing into a four team playoff....which is comical.

What's also comical is saying that MSU was dominated by Alabama. MSU had more rushing yards than Alabama. They had more passing yards than Alabama. They had nearly 100 more total yards than Alabama. They had more time of possession than Alabama. They had 26 first downs to Alabama's 17.

Alabama won that game because State's Heisman candidate QB was banged up and played like crap turning the ball over three times while Alabama's only turnover was reversed by a questionable replay and called a touchdown.

You've dug in your heels here, and that's fine. You'll have to forgive me if I find the case you've laid out severely lacking.

I wasn't even talking about myself. You used that false argument when touting Missouri in one of the 5000 conference pissing matches you've engaged in.

Regarding the OP: Let us not forget that Missouri lost to Indiana at home this year, easily the worst loss of the millennium. I hope this team can win the East, but aside from the defense, it's not a good football team. They were absolutely annihilated by a good Georgia team at home as well. Beating a floundering Florida team and a massively overrated South Carolina is certainly better than losing, but this team has beaten one program this year that is likely to finish the regular season with more than seven wins.

Regarding Mississippi State: Teams that get dominated in the first half usually end up racking up far better numbers in the second half, but those numbers don't tell a true story of the game. They were dominated by Alabama.

The point isn't that Mississippi State isn't a good football team but that they are overrated. They shot up in the polls because of the timing of their wins, not their quality. If they beat Auburn, LSU, and aTm in the last three weeks of the conference season and lost to Alabama in their second conference game instead of the next-to-last, they never elevate to the top position because they would have exactly one win over a team currently ranked (and no top 10 wins) rather than three wins over supposedly top-10 teams, yet none of those teams are demonstrably more or less talented now than they were six weeks ago.

If Alabama beats Auburn and then loses to Georgia or Missouri, Alabama is out of the playoff, perhaps rightfully so. If Oregon loses to UCLA, they're done. Same for Ohio State, and Florida State. The only teams that don't have to win a CCG to get into the playoff are Miss St, TCU, and Baylor. That's backing in, especially since there is no way they'd be #4 if you reordered the games they played.

In effect, the stupidity of the system rewards MSU for the timing of their victories and losses rather than the quality of them. That's an inherently bullshit system, because arbitrary guesswork ends up informing a supposedly meritocratic judgment.
