Well I'm glad someone took Carl Davis because otherwise I would have double dipped at DL for Buffalo. I like Davis at that spot in a 3-4 but with with way Cooper performed against Mariota and Mariota going to the Jets it tipped the scale in his favor for me.

This is bizarro world.

Why would a first round O-Lineman not start?

Kush is unproven, and Fulton, Fanaika, Allen, Sherrod, Stevenson, and Sherrod are all scrubs or brokedicks.

I believe we could draft first and fourth round lineman, and both would have a chance to start. with the first being a close to a sure thing as possible.
1. I think they will give Kush every opportunity to be the starting center.
2. While everyone here thinks that Allen and Stephenson are hot trash, I don't, and I don't think Dorsey and Reid think so either. Both know the offense and have a huge incentive to play well this year as their contracts are up. If they play well they will get paid, either by us or another team. Again, Dorsey's love of compensatory picks means he would likely give both guys a real opportunity to win the starting jobs at RG and RT

The Seattle Seahawks are going to integrate some two TE looks this season, and who better to tutor Walford in the ways than Jimmy Graham?

I agree.
Who, however, do we have to compete, and what is the backup plan should he fail?

2. While everyone here thinks that Allen and Stephenson are hot trash, I don't, and I don't think Dorsey and Reid think so either. I'm not sure that everyone does think of them as hot trash, but that's irrelevant.

These guys might be the answer, and you can add the Doc to the list.
But they also might not be, and I'd rather have some quality competition, because Fanaika and Fulton are hot trash.

kccrow
03-21-2015, 09:01 PM
With the 64th pick, the New England Patriots select Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska.

The Patriots let Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley walk this offseason, leaving them with a half full cupboard in the backfield. They need a do-everything type of back that can especially create mismatches in the passing game. Abdullah has proven he can run inside or out and can be a nightmare to defend as a receiver. I know he has some prior fumbling issues, but his talent is too much to pass up. One of the shiftiest backs I've seen since Barry Sanders.

Injuries sapped the Chicago secondary last season and the Bears can't wait any longer to address this issue. There are logical picks for the Bears on offense still on the board, but the NFC North and it's stable of pass catching threats and able quarterbacks forces Ryan Pace's hand in investing heavily in the defense in the top 100 selections of the draft.

The Chicago Bears select, Cody Prewitt, safety, Mississippi.

Example:

If Pesty decides to tell you to calm down, you:

1. Tell him he is an asshole.
2. Tell him we're all taking too ****ing long, and that it's Pesty's fault.
3. That your grandmother could make a better selection than Ereck Flowers to Carolina in the first.

It was between him and Smith for the 49ers. The 49ers CB depth helped make my decision. He would be a very nice pick for the CHIEFS.

Direckshun

The Chiefs have a very simple decision to make, here.

The Chiefs select Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina.

The Decision

It would have been harder had the previous two picks not occurred. The way my board fell had three guys above everybody else: Nelson, D'Joun Smith, and Hardy. There are some other talents that I like just as much at TE, OT, OLB, and DE, but I feel like those talents could be available at the bottom of the 3rd. Of the remaining WRs, Justin Hardy is by far the best, and he's at the top of my board. It's a no brainer.

The WR Position

The Chiefs have a ton of young promise at the WR position now. With Maclin and Devin Smith, they have an interesting Week 1 starting crew, with Albert Wilson and De'Anthony Thomas providing some help as well. The Chiefs also inked Jason Avant this offseason, but I don't have any faith that he'll stay healthy or even make the roster.

Hardy can come in right away and play a ton of snaps out of the slot. John Dorsey knows as good as anybody that having a 3rd and 4th receiver that's better than your opponent's 3rd and 4th CB is worth its weight in gold.

Justin Hardy

Hardy has all the making of a receiver that can succeed with Alex Smith. At 5'10", with less-than-elite speed, he's not your typical Dorsey-approved physical specimen, but he is an excellent route-runner with very high football IQ. He can set up corners over the course of a game for a devasating double move, he can stack up some YAC, he can make great circus catches with his 10" hands, and he's an incredibly tough player. He blocks, he returns punts, and he has nigh unparalleled work ethic.

Hardy's Impact

The Chiefs now have themselves a WR corps in Kelce, Maclin, Smith, Hardy, Wilson, and Thomas who are all under contract for at LEAST the next two years (as is Alex Smith, Knile Davis, and at least 4/5 of the Week 1 starting OL). This is an offense that WILL BE BETTER in Week 8 than they were in Week 1, better in Week 16 than they were in Week 8, and be better in 2016 than they were in 2015.

If you want to point the arrow way, way up for the offense, you flesh out this WR corps with the best possible talent.

The Buffalo Bills select Josue Matias, Offensive Guard, Florida State.

After a season where right guard was arguably their biggest weakness, the Bills select the top guard in this year's draft on their board. Experienced, physical, and skilled; Matias pulling out wide on a sweep or inside on a trap was a staple in Florida State's offense for years. Versus Georgia Tech in the ACC championship, he put defenders on their backs at least seven times. He is possibly the quickest player out of his stance in the draft. Matias made 43 starts for Florida State's pro-style offense and should be a contributor right away. At 6'5", 309# with 33 1/8" arms, he has the body to stay at guard or kick outside to right tackle.

With the 82nd pick the Houston Texans select Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville

The Texans have had their woes at OLB with about the same frequency as they have on the inside. They drafted Whitney Mercilus in 2012 with a first round pick in hopes he could create havoc off the edge but that hasn't happened, although he's at least been consistently right near average. They took Jadeveon Clowney with the first overall pick in 2014, hoping he could be the answer. With Clowney's future uncertain after microfracture surgery and Mercilus in a contract year, the future for the Texans at the position is just as much in doubt now as it has ever been. The Texans need to find themselves again going to the same well. Mauldin is a very solid all-around edge rusher prospect who sets against and plays the run well but can also relentlessly rush the passer. Mauldin is a don't quit, fiery competitor with no great physical traits but is smart and gets the job done, reminding me of Kansas City's Tamba Hali.

Yyyyyeahhhh.... about that.

No worries about that. They signed Cecil Shorts, re-signed Newton, re-signed Mallett. We'll get to that sort of silly offense stuff in time. Clowney has that microfracture to come back from. Wilfork is old. They might still cut Joseph. They have no ILBs except Cushing for about 6 games a year.

Edit: Oh, they also drafted a center in the 4th round a few years back, Ben Jones, that will likely start now. They drafted Su'a Filo at guard, he'll start. O-Line looks solid. They have Hoyer/Mallett, Foster, Hopkins. They're fine. I'll add some talent there, but it isn't a first/second day priority for them with the holes on defense.

P.S. Little rub for the Cam Erving pick haha

The Steelers need help at outside linebacker in the worst way, but with they opted not to reach for any of the prospects who were reasonable picks in the earlier two rounds. Grissom has athleticism that isn't coachable and presents a relatively fresh piece of clay to be molded into a better-than-serviceable OLB.

This player is too good to pass up on, and he'll make a great swing tackle just in case anything happens to their two bookends (or if David Bakhtiari is actually a pile of suck-- seriously, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop on him. Any day now)

The Green Bay Packers select Daryl Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Why Williams over Thompson?

Think I prefer the latter.

The Seattle Seahawks want to thank the rest of the league for overlooking a first round talent and providing the Seahawks with yet another pass -rusher, and select Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State

I thought about Bennett for the Cowboys. Didn't know if I wanted to double dip at DT though when safety depth is horrible.

Maybe.

I really fucking love Peters. The character "issues" that are arising from what I'm reading about are nothing. The dude is the most versatile and talented corner in the draft.

With Peters, there's no reason at all why we need Jesse Owens or whoever the fuck that was playing dime last year. No more burn victims in heavy coverage packages! Not with Peters.

And that's just what I envision for his rookie year. He's got a high floor and high ceiling.

Chris Owens, dummy.

With the 96th selection, the New England Patriots select Joshua Shaw, CB, Southern California

After letting Revis Island and Browner walk this offseason, the Patriots have to retool, and they did little in bringing in quality talent to replace them in free agency. Shaw brings physicality and can be the man-cover type that Belichick has traditionally employed.

With the 97th selection, the New England Patriots select Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary

As usual, the Patriots are searching for more weapons to put around Tom Brady. With Brandon LaFell and Julian Edelman as the only legitimate receivers on the roster, the Pats have to do more and they really need to get a deep threat.

Because Thompson plays like a puss too often for my tastes. I love Williams' nastiness and upper body strength, and while his footwork is lacking, he's a notable hard worker that I think will improve those details very quickly. It's not like Thompson has that much better of a frame to play the position apart from his lower body.

I'm a big fan of guys who are close to being good but not quite there, yet they have the demeanor and character to make those adjustments no problem. Usually that produces a valuable player to your team. Williams may not ever become an elite OT, but he can be a good one very quickly. In my opinion, you take those guys ASAP when they come to you, especially if it's at a position of need.

That's fair.

I'm here, folks. I've got my choice of future Chiefs down to 4 guys. I'm going to do a little more research because I'm absolutely wracking my brain on them. It's a combination right now of (a.) who has the most promise, obv, and (b.) who is the least likely to last until my 4th rounder.

Give me about 30 min.

That's just enough time for CleveSteve to drive around your neighborhood 5 or 6 times and get a good look inside your office window to make sure you're doing draft work.

Don't bother shutting the blinds. He's got hidden cameras installed everywhere.

Thank you for not taking him! :) He's been my target in round 3 for them since I passed on Byron Jones for Ameer Abdullah in round 2. If he wasn't there I probably would have had to wait until the later part of round 4 to get a corner else I was looking at reaching quite a bit for another guy. That's something I didn't want to do haha.

It was an extremely difficult decision to make this time around, because I had a shortlist of about 10 players to choose from.

Ultimately, the choice came down to DE/DT Marcus Hardison out of Arizona State, CB Doran Grant out of Ohio State, and this guy.

The Chiefs select Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington.

The reason this choice was so difficult is because the Chiefs likely don't need an OLB, but he absolutely was the best player available by a good degree. Grant is really good, but limited with no upside. Hardison is extremely exciting to watch, but he is a one-year wonder who will need a ****ton of work in technique and it's not even clear he can stop the run at all, which is a big deal at this point with our defense.

Kikaha is an absolute technician at the passrushing position. He comes virtually NFL-ready to play, and while he can always get stronger and sharper in his rushbacker technique, his ability to contribute to keeping the passrush aces can be immediately felt. There was no better passrusher than Kikaha the past year in the NCAA, and he did it the old fashioned way: he wasn't necessarily bigger and stronger than his opponents, he just had better technique and worked harder. Improve his strength, and he's got double-digit sack potential in the NFL, while being stout against the run. He'll need work in coverage as well, but there's no reason he can't play the "Hali" to Ford's "Houston" should the Chiefs elect to move on from both.

There were RBs, OTs, TEs, and an ILB I considered here, but the bang for my buck is absolutely too good with Kikaha, who can insure our passrush against (a.) losing Houston in 2016, or (b.) losing Hali in 2016, or (c.) Dee Ford potentially busting. DJ's left nut said, in another thread in the Lounge, that the team might as well prepare for a future without Hali and Houston. That's tragic to think of, but this would be a step in that direction.

Holes remain for this team at TE, CB, and especially ILB, but the talent at these positions is just dramatically inferior to what Kikaha brings to the table.
