Just curious... If the fan called Smart a racial slur, was he justified for shoving the fan.

I think its an interesting debate about where the line should be drawn for fans to get away with jawing at players. Let's first see if there's any truth to this. My personal opinion is that sports should have leeway for fan behavior, but there's a line that fans too often cross.

This hypothetical doesn't exactly make sense, though, because Tech would never do this. It has a vested interest in defending the reputation of the institution and its fans (and apparently it felt that it had to stand behind their asshole booster as well).

Except I could just as easily say that the fan came up with a bullshit excuse (piece of crap? That's seriously what he texted after the game saying he felt bad about going too far after getting shoved?

The evidence isn't conclusive one way or the other. That video doesn't prove shit. The Sand Aggies covering their own ass and backing a guy that probably gives tens of thousands of dollars a year to them doesn't prove shit either.

OSU and Smart don't have a vested interest in trying to show Smart in the best light possible after his poor decision?

If Tech had any evidence that a racial slur was said, they'd be foolish to try to cover that up. With all the technology today they have no idea if somebody has this recorded on their phone. If they back Orr based on "doctored" evidence or a shoddy investigation and then something comes out proving Orr did use a racial slur, they would look extremely stupid.

Well, now I do know just as many facts about the situation as you do, and I still think that's what happened. I just don't need to post 75 times in this thread to pretend I care as much as you do about it.
