Mecole Hardman

It seems like the offense has been a lot less dynamic without Hardman. He might be the spark needed going into the playoffs.

I know the accepted narrative here is one that treats Hardman as some sort of JAG. But I really like his freakish athleticism, his playmaking ability, and his unselfishness. He’s still really young and has acted like a kid at times, but I’ve got this nagging feeling that if the light ever comes on he’s gonna be special.

He’s made some really great plays and I love the way he runs in traffic. He doesn’t shift gears. It’s like he’s in variable glide mode.

Nah, haven’t forgotten that. What we’ve done is mostly in the right direction. The days of fast break were fun and exciting, but they’re over. We needed to make the offense more efficient and balanced. I’m certainly not saying we need to uproot anything. We are just missing a key piece. There is no reason you can’t complement this style of offense with a true WR1.

And you can’t build this offense around guys like Mvs or even Watson. If your approach is to sustain long drives you can’t have Mvs killing drives like the terminator. And you can’t have these guys disappear for 90% of the game. If you bring in a complete WR who has size and speed you don’t have to keep giving reps to guys like Mvs because he’s the only guy out there who can stretch the field.

That means we go another year without a WR1 because we know Andy doesn’t play them early. And that’s assuming you’re even going to find that in the lower part of each round. So if we whiff then we have to wait 2-3 years for it?

I’d be open to this approach if you brought in a true WR1 stopgap to buy you time to find a great WR. An older vet or a juju guy on a prove it contract. In fact Wr is the perfect spot to do it because unlike other positions, if your draft pick does great, you can still play both guys. But we’ve got to make it a priority to make sure he has a true WR1. If we go in the draft we HAVE to hit on it.

You have Mahomes at qb. It’s his job to take a #2 guy and have him produce at #1 levels. That’s just what’s asked of him once his big money hit.

Find the next jjss this year if you want there’s guys there every year like that.

Yeah but pair Mahomes with a true #1 and we might be near unstoppable. The year Brady played with Moss they almost went 19-0.

But we had Tyreek Hill for several seasons and our offense was generally less productive than it is now.

WR is the one position that fully maximizes your qb potential. It allows mahomes to make way more aggressive throws we know he’s capable of making. I simply don’t understand the notion that we need to build elite talent everywhere on the field except the one position that helps our HOF qb the most. We have Patrick mahomes and we want to run the team like Alex smith. Make this make sense.

When the game is on the line I want that in Patrick’s hands. Not the defense. Not Pacheco. Not McKinnon. I love juju but he’s not WR1. If you want compromises then stop with the idea of wanting a fully balanced team and instead ask mahomes to shoulder more of the load. And it’s crazy to me that people are plenty comfortable staying the course and throwing $25m at juju + Mvs but can’t fathom throwing $20m at a WR1 who does both their jobs while also giving us an actual option against CB1s.

And we still haven’t addressed the elephant in the room that kelce is 33. We’ll learn real fast the limitations of our WR room when he inevitably starts to decline.

Mahomes can’t control his WRs making mistakes and dumb drops. He’s not going to help his WRs beat man coverage better or faster. And for the love of god can we stop asking him to run around like a decapitated chicken because our WRs can’t beat press? Or can we give the man a guy who can actually make an even remotely difficult sideline grab or jump ball instead of asking the man to throw it directly into their hands? With a HOF qb it allows him to do more while also asking him to do less at the same time.

And if you ignore the initial plan of having Tyreek hill AND Juju play together. So they still wanted that true #1 WR lining up opposite Juju. And the offense would be even better than it is now and likely has ever been.

We had Tyreek the last couple years and we weren’t unstoppable

Unstoppable isn’t possible in the nfl with the salary cap. It’s great to have that elite #1 wr, but if you don’t have guys around him, your offense stagnates. The dolphins are finding that out, the bulls get stuck in neutral, etc

Everyone would love to have Justin Jefferson here. But again, when your qb is making what he makes, you’ve gotta rob Peter to pay Paul somewhere.

If you wanna go pay a wr 22 plus, fine.

But don’t bitch about the defense or the tackles

I've got no problem at all if they signed a WR1 for 20mm/year or even more.

But who's in that class of WR that will only sign for that?

When we're looking at last year's FA WRs, you're talking about Mike Williams at 20mm and Christian Kirk at 18mm. Both of those were before the Hill and Adams deals which will inevitably set the market even higher.

If Mike Williams were available this offseason at 22mm, would you want him? Or Kirk at 20mm? Because that's the caliber of player you're looking at there.
