Mecole Hardman

It seems like the offense has been a lot less dynamic without Hardman. He might be the spark needed going into the playoffs.

I know the accepted narrative here is one that treats Hardman as some sort of JAG. But I really like his freakish athleticism, his playmaking ability, and his unselfishness. He’s still really young and has acted like a kid at times, but I’ve got this nagging feeling that if the light ever comes on he’s gonna be special.

He’s made some really great plays and I love the way he runs in traffic. He doesn’t shift gears. It’s like he’s in variable glide mode.

Looks like it is related to the hernia:

Reid explained Hardman's setback as a "tweak" with some pain "up in the groin area."

Hardman will have to be activated by around next Wednesday if he’s going to be available for the playoffs. His window to be activated started December 14th and closes 21 days later.

I wouldn’t count on him the rest of the season. Sounds serious.

VARSITY
Reid said ""I'm not that worried about it." so hopefully its a minor tweak and they're being overly precautious against subpar competition.

I bet we activate him by Weds (not sure who we cut), and he doesn't play against LV either. If somehow Buffalo loses to the Bengals, then he'd get an extra couple weeks to heal up.

From there we just need the dude to do a handful of Jet Sweeps as we march towards Patrick's second SB victory.

Activate him but don't let him play two weeks & have him ready for playoffs.

Throwing an aggressive sideline throw or jump ball is a way better use of mahomes than holding your breath on a critical third and long because mahomes dumped a screen to McKinnon hoping he’ll pick up 10. In the first scenario you allow mahomes to be mahomes but you actually have a wr who can help him out. The second scenario takes mahomes mostly out of the equation. And we are more and more leaning into the latter.

Make him do less to create miracle pockets and windows. Let him do more to use his arm talent.

So basically take out the short passes and screen game is what we’re wanting?

Seems like a lot of blather and bullshit to me.

Andy is saving his playbook for the playoffs. Hardman and Toney on the field together will create a lot of matchup problems, especially for teams who haven’t seen any tape of it

I never said that. I’ve said I like that we’re making the offense more efficient. I like forcing Andy to run more and getting Reid back to the screen game wizard he is. But…..

We are starting to use it as a crutch especially later in games and on third downs. And that’s a defense saying they want to take the ball out of mahomes’ hands and us saying in critical situations we want mahomes to do the bare minimum and for mckinnon to do the playmaking. Mckinnon is Steve Kerr to Jordan. He is a hell of a weapon in the passing game. But He shouldn’t be there to take every game winning shot. He’s the guy Jordan passes to as a very last resort.

Mahomes is at his best in the 4th when he is aggressive. He can make throws others can’t. He can buy time in miraculous ways with his legs. But he can’t if his WRs can’t get open. He can’t if he has to hit them in the breadbasket each time. Instead of blasting him for not taking what he’s given the better use of mahomes talents is to give him WRs who lessen the need for these safe bailouts. Give him an inch and he can take it a mile. Kelce has been exceptional in the middle but we’ve gotta get production out of our WRs in these situations. Because then you can attack with mahomes. Not rely on Pacheco. Not rely on McKinnon. Not rely on our defense when we settle for a fg. Use the exceptional arm talent we have and let him go back to making plays other QBs are incapable of making.

Also to be clear, getting a WR1 doesn’t mean abandoning the run or screen game. Go get a WR1 who complements it.

So essentially, throw it down the field.

Like they did last year when Tyreek was as here…..or wait.

I mean **** man, these “safe bailouts” have lead them to the most explosive 20 yard passing plays in the league.

Im kind of at a loss here

totally agree.

Draft picks need to offset free agency, so it makes a lot of sense to keep swinging in the draft at positions that are expensive in FA…especially ones that we have existing force multipliers in.

The best plan for this offseason is to let the coaches and training staff improve our young talent to give them a chance to shine while spending available resources to improve areas on the team that are a bigger and more impactful need.

Our DE position is held together by duct tape
We need an upgrade to at least one OT position

Let’s say we add another DE of similar quality to George to bookend with him while also adding an OT that can seal one of the edges.

Then look at what we’re going into 2023 with in the WR room.

Toney
Ross
Moore
MVS
Draft pick

Hopefully the training staff can put the pieces together of Toney and Ross. If they can, that already has big time potential.
