Who’s had a colonoscopy?

Had my first the other day. All in all, not bad whatsoever. The buildup was much worse than the procedure itself. Glad it’s done for 5-10 years.

I picked it up from the pharmacy (jug included) if that's what you're asking. The jug contained the powder. Just add water.

I went in for my pre consultation yesterday. Scope is scheduled for September 1st which, mercifully is a Friday.

Doc was pretty open with me. He said the prep is 1000 times worse than the procedure.

My appointment is at 8:30, he said I should be home by noon unless they find some boulders in there.

FYI, I haven’t been having any issues but I turned 45 this year and that’s the new recommended age.

Can confirm. Feeling awful at the moment. I'm excited for the procedure in comparison. I just have to take a nap, and I get to eat a giant hamburger after.

Not sure whether you all go under for the procedure with anesthesia, but it's something to think about. You can do it without going under, but it is supposedly a bit painful...like getting a cramp. Why this is an issue? there is evidence that anesthesia can contribute to dementia later in life. Anecdotally, my mother had multiple cancer related surgeries and in her early 80's slipped into a state where she couldn't recognize anyone around her.

So is it necessary to do just because of age?

They don’t anesthetize you they sedate you. And you’re pretty much out for about 30min, but it’s possible you wake up during the procedure, but you won’t feel pain. I remember I woke up and just recall feeling a painless pressure then it was over. Piece of cake!

They recommend having a colonoscopy at 45 nowadays. If they find nothing you’re likely done for another 10 years. It’s worth having the peace of mind especially considering how common colon cancer is becoming in younger people.

Yep. I did my first one at age 38 because of some symptoms I was having that turned out to be unrelated. Even so, they found some pre cancerous polyps that worried them enough that I'm back for another round 2 years later.

It's not a guarantee that it would have caused problems, but I'm pretty glad I went in when I did.

A friend of mine was worried about it, I told him it was no big deal. The worst part, other than the prep, is waking up to all of the doctors pulling up their pants after the procedure.

He wasn't amused...

I have to admit...while this is a very serious subject, it is always fun to read this thread if nothing else for the comic relief.

Of course I am sitting here early in the AM doing my weekly treatment....so that may explain part of it.
