Note again that this is June 2017 so we’ve already drafted Mahomes, Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Chris Jones, Kareem Hunt, etc.

Do you think it’s possible we could have similar success to what we’ve enjoyed these last several years with BelichickGM instead of Veach?
We probably still get SB 54. After that? Definitely not. BelichickGM's arrogance would get in the way.

In fact, it's likely we don't even make it to SB 55.

You can't draft Cole Stranges and fart away all your mid-late round picks like Belichick does and expect us to be just as successful.

You seriously think Belichick goes aggressive in free agency at key times like Veach did? You think we're remotely successful with these one-year rebuilds at key position groups? You think he manages to keep Chris Jones after we win 54? You think he drums up that incredible work of art known as the Mahomes extension?

I’m not saying he could for sure do it here, but I’m saying there’d be a good chance because he’s done it before. The proof is in the pudding, ya know?

Tap out acknowledged is, like, prime real estate in CPDC.

Eh, we’ve got our fair share of Cole Stranges and farting away mid-late picks too. A couple bad drafts won’t sink a ship, we know that. Looking back at our 2017 and 2018 drafts in retrospect, the only player we still had on our team by the end of the following season who was actually worth a shit was Mahomes. You’d think that would cause a franchise to falter a bit but it didn’t slow us down. Couple years later we won the Super Bowl. Year after that we were back in it. Seems like you really only need to hit on one or two players per draft to consider them a success.

Eventually that sort of thing will catch up to you, though. There is no doubt about it.

I think we were so well set up in 2017 that our 2018-2020 run was pretty much set in stone. Barring a major injury to Mahomes (that actually kept him out for an extended period of time), I feel like we were going to be in the mix in late January/early February regardless.

The butterfly effect could be crazy too. Like, imagine if BelichickGM doesn’t decide to cut Kareem Hunt. Maybe Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher don’t both get injured in 2020. Maybe BelichickGM decides to keep Tyreek Hill.

BelichickGM also had 20 years of managing Brady’s contracts and those were considered steals for like 90% of the time he was in New England so I have to assume he’d navigate Mahomes’ deals well.

I don’t think he’d have been as aggressive as Veach in FA at times, but I do wonder how much it’d matter. We change out the RBs every year, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. Completely rebuild the OL, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. Trade away a HoF WR, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. One year we have bookend Ts and a weak interior OL, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. Next year we have a strong interior OL and weak Ts, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. Completely rebuild the secondary, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. One year we have one of the worst LB groups in the league, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG. Couple years later our LB group is a strength of the team, doesn’t matter, we’re hosting the AFCCG.

Lol.. like, idk, man. The one constant here is Reid and Mahomes. Seems like Andy and Pat can make damn near anything work. I can’t say definitively that we’d have the same success with BelichickGM but I know that having those two guys on our side means we will be damn close every year. At that point you just need a little bit of luck to take it all the way.

You mean you don't think "the Chiefs have missed on players in the draft too!" is a good argument?

As if the Veach has missed anywhere near the rate that Belichcik has for almost a decade.

2nd round is 50 50 at best and each round drastically diminishes in odds based off of historical draft results. Veach is far out pacing this.

While Belichick has been below average (putting it nicely) by every objective measure.

No idea where anyone could come to the conclusion BB is good at drafting players.

He got majorly lucky with Tom Brady and Brady has already proved that.

You make a great point that I forgot to add in my response to that.

It's a little different when he was the one that led the charge in Mahomes. It's not like he just got hired from another team after Mahomes was drafted.

After the draft Andy mentioned it. Also said he played a big part in them taking Fletcher Cox with the Eagles.
