Seems entirely logical, it never made sense going into the season with absolutely no experience at the position, no matter how good Reid and Mahomes are. It just never seemed like something they would do. I bet they thought Smith would be cleared much sooner than he was.

Possible his medicals never checked out the way KC wanted. Isn't his issue neck/back related? That stuff can be very touchy.
