Kelce: Mahomes' Raiders INT was on me

During today's presser, Kelce was asked why he was so pissed off at himself on Twitter after the Raiders game.

He then described how during the game, they have a lot of freedom to make choices during the flow of a play, which often leads to success. He called himself out for freelancing on the route that lead to Mahomes' (only) Interception this year, and how it hurt the team by allowing them to turn it into a 16 point lead.

1. It's cool that he owns this and pushes himself to be better.

2. It's insane that the only interception Patrick has had this season wasn't his fault.

Ultimately, it's on Patrick to not make the throw, but he clearly trusts Kelce and so perhaps there was something Kelce missed on the coverage during the play.

No idea. Maybe one? Two at the most, and no one is able to do it for a whole game.

Thing is, Gronk is kind of an outlier; you're not supposed to be able to run as fast as he did in his prime at that size, and then have both the athleticism and the hands to catch some of the passes he did. And then he was the best blocking TE the league has ever seen.

Kelce is a different kind of TE. He's actually a WR in a TE's body. He's more athletic and probably has better route-running skills and hands than Gronk, but he's not as physical (but no one can be), and certainly not the blocker that Gronk was.

Point being, Gronk as the whole package was just unstoppable. In his prime, when he was healthy.

I can't imagine that's even close to true.

Because he has mahomes some may credit much of his success to mahomes. Which is unfair considering how much work he puts in to every route. Because he was a goofball early in his career leading to some brain farts I don't think he gets enough credit for how much effort he puts into every play. Maybe underappreciated is the better term.
You realize he hasn’t always had Mahomes?

How can you not like Kelce? (Well maybe Raiders, Donkeys and Bolts can't)

Dude is awesome on so many levels.

You never saw him play when he was 100% healthy?

Here, let me help you out a little. This is Baldy's breakdown (2018) of Gronk against the Steelers and a bit against the Saints and the Bears. And I'd guess that Gronk wasn't actually 100% healthy for these games. But Gronk takes on these blocks 1v1, against some seriously good DEs/LBs, and not only holds his own, he actually wrecks most of these guys. He drives the Saints DE 4-5 yards into the backfield, by himself.

Anyway, this is what I think people mean when they say Gronk was unstoppable:

It wasn't just about his catching ability. It was probably more about just how hard it was to tackle the guy. Early in his career you had to gang tackle him every time or he'd just throw people off, stiff-arm them, whatever to keep going, and there just wasn't a good answer for how to deal with him.

I love Kelce, and as a pure receiver I'd take Kelce every time, but Gronk in his prime was a beast no matter what he was doing on the field.

That was just Kietzman after Mahomes threw 3 INT's at training camp one day.
