My buddy familiar with insiders texted me these notes - we shall see if his info is good:

Kinda sorta what you said. They’ve already internally to go after the booster destination and will argue these guys work for multiple programs hence not boosters.

They don’t work for Kansas at all, they work for Adidas helping their portfolio of schools. It’s therefoe impossible they can be tied to any 1 school. They’re indiff to whether recruit goes to Kansas or Arizona. This argument will be released in the next month or two”

That makes good sense.

I was on the plausible-deniability train yesterday but I think I’m off it now. Yeah, the argument is either they work for Adidas, or they work for everyone.

Buddy said KU is discussing a “malicious prosecution” lawsuit vs NCAA if they’re singled out. Hold onto your hats.

I don't know what the burden of proof is on the suit, but I'd say file that bitch.

If the NCAA will look at the deposition and only pick KU, that's hogshit.

Especially after that fool is trying to dig up 100K for Zion, and he ends up at Duke. As if he'd go there for free. :spock:

Are we at the stage where we're still pretending that the NCAA has any sort of a clue as to what they are doing, or have we moved onto we'll show them! yet? Inquiring minds need to know!

So common sense does still exist.

On the college b-ball board that I read, the Duke apologists claim exactly that—Zion had demands for KU only and opted to play at Duke for free.

And of course, every Kentucky fan thinks they’re 100% clean and that somehow they’ve been exonerated.

In summary, everyone cheats but the two schools that bag all the talent. Can’t make it up.

Of course, Merl Code himself was caught on tape saying specifically that Duke, Kentucky and all top Nike schools cheat, but they know more than he does.

Or that Kansas knows. We were Adidas’ “victims” in the Federal Courts then turned around and took a 12/191 endorsement deal with them. There’s no end to college sports hypocrisy.

Frankly the shoe companies have really taken hold of this sport. Legally you’ll never be able to bar them as it’s a restriction of trade and hence unconstitutional.

Bill Self sports Adidas shirt in Kansas promo video

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self, whose program was charged with five NCAA Level I violations this week, appears in a school-released video walking through a record store to Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" while wearing a shirt with a large "Adidas Basketball" logo and a chain with a "$" sign to promote the rapper's appearance at Late Night at the Phog.

Georgia Tech just cooperated with the NCAA, and their sanctions seem way too harsh.

Not sure how you could make fun of booking The Rolling Stones, even though I certainly wouldn’t want to see it. It would not mean they were “out of touch,” because it’s still a hot ticket.

Snoop is the rap version of Rolling Stones. But not as old and more of a pop culture icon. He’s everywhere. Hit TV shows, movies, social media, various appearances and still playing to large audiences. He may not have any huge hits in the last 5 years, but he was consistently involved in hits up to that point.

KU basketball nets commitment from 2020 juco wing Tyon Grant-Foster
Matt Galloway

By
Posted Oct 14, 2019 at 6:49 PM
LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball went to the junior college ranks for its first commitment in the Class of 2020.

The Jayhawks on Monday afternoon received an oral pledge from Tyon Grant-Foster, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound wing from Kansas City, Kan. Grant-Foster, who played high school ball for Kansas City-Schlagle, will be a sophomore this season for Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.

“I’m staying home,” tweeted Grant-Foster, who added he is 110-percent committed.

One of the most coveted junior college recruits in the country, Grant-Foster also had offers from Kansas State, Texas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and LSU, among other Power Five programs. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds as a freshman for Indian Hills, connecting on 37.4 percent of his attempts from the floor with a 27.4-percent clip from 3-point range and a 67.7-percent conversion rate on free-throw tries.

Grant-Foster visited KU over the weekend. The program can’t comment on Grant-Foster’s commitment until he’s signed his national letter of intent.

“Thrilled for Tyon Grant-Foster on his commitment to Kansas,” tweeted Indian Hills coach Hank Plona. “Tyon is a special talent, and the real deal of a person. I am so proud of his hard work, character, and determination. Sky is the limit for Tyon!”

Recruiting outlet Rivals lists Grant-Foster as a four-star junior college prospect.

KU, which has one open scholarship following transfer of guard Issac McBride, is on track to free up two more this offseason with the departures seniors Udoka Azubuike and Isaiah Moss. Fellow senior Mitch Lightfoot could also leave if the Jayhawks choose not to redshirt him this season, and junior Silvio De Sousa, sophomores Devon Dotson and Ochai Agbaji and freshman Jalen Wilson are all candidates to leave early for the NBA Draft.

I've always been a Nebraska hoops fan. Dont forget Hoiberg got Doc Salder to leave his head coaching job at Southern Miss to be an assistant.

I expect KU to be very good and play a classic high low. Theyll pound alot of teams on the glass. Where theyll get into trouble is similar to the Nova final 4 game, Oregon, etc when teams can match them up front but out shoot them.

Looks like Garrett’s tired of hearing about his shooting. If he can shoot reliably from outside now, this team will have few weaknesses. Aside from possibly the fit of a few pieces. I don’t know how Azubuike and De Sousa will be able to play a lot together.

But there’s defensive ability all over, length, rebounding, strength, athleticism, and decent shooters throughout (if Garrett isn’t fool’s gold).

KU wins their exhibition game by 60 something points against Pitt State, who looked god awful. Their coach is Kim Anderson, so that is to be expected.

Christian Braun looks already better than Quinten Grimes did last year, or would have been this year. He does everything well. A little to early to tell, but he seems to stay in front of his man well. Hopefully he has that lateral quickness that so many white guys just don't have.

Tristan Enaruna is the best pro prospect on the roster other than Ochai Agbaji. He's long, skilled and made some jumpers today.

Speaking of Ochai Agbaji. There is zero percent chance he is coming back, for his junior year because we are going to be on probation and he's going to be a Top 15 pick. This dude is my new hero. I don't think he missed tonight. Hit four first half threes. Teammates say his shot is greatly improved and they weren't surprised at all by his standout exhibition performances so far.

Jalen Wilson looks like a four year player, but he will still help us due to his versatility when we play smaller teams. We have the ability to go both small and big this year, I like it.

Devon Dotson shot the ball like shit, but he had 7 assists and 0 turnovers. If he shows he can be a distributor to go along with his scoring and quickness, look out.

Doke is Doke. And he still sucks at FTs. I do believe the guy is mentally weak. It's in his head at this point. We should probably tell him on the second FT to not even try to make it, try to bank it in and if he misses we have a better chance of a long rebound. He's that bad at free throws.

McCormick looks slowed down a bit and has a nice 15 foot shot. He tried a 3 tonight though and airballed it, but he looked like our best shooting big man out of Doke & SDS. Last year he always look sped up.

Moss played very few minutes due to nagging hamstring injury. He has a nice stroke, hit a three early and missed a couple. Hard to say much either way based on the performance and nagging injury.

Silvio De Sousa is by far the teams best rebounder. Rebounding is just effortless for him. I think he's the best pro prospect of the three bigs out of Doke & McCormick.

Marcus Garrett super duper defender. His shot looks legit better. He even hit a quasi step back 3 tonight and went 1-2 behind the arc. Hopefully his FT shooting is greatly improved, too. This team might be god awful from FT since we play two bigs and Garrett.

Mitch Lightfoot looks the same. They say he's improved his shot too and he hit a nice three. Becoming more of a pick and pop 4 man that can block some shots. I feel bad for them because it sounds like they are going to make him redshirt. I get it too, because next year when he'll be playing much more minutes we won't even be eligible for post season play anyway.

The red head kid chucks up bricks and is slow. Apparently he was a good HS player, but he's been disappointing in walk on minutes. But who really gives a shit, he's a walk on. Janks kid is now 2-2 from 3FG. The new folk hero?

I think this is the most overrated Duke team in recent memory. But admittedly it's hard to handicap these things with so many new players. But Duke's recruiting class this year is as weak as it's been in many years. They have Vernon Carey Top 2 recruit and Matthew Hurt Top 15 recruit. The other recruits are just Top 30 guys who may or may not be ready.

Tre Jones wasn't even very good last year and at times was a liability. I expect him to be improved, but Dotson is a better COLLEGE BASKETBALL player.

The line started at -2.5 Duke and people hammered that line and it's now -3 Kansas. I guess almost losing to a D2 team in your exhibition game will do that. Granted it was Northwest Missouri State, but there are tons of question marks with Duke.

Duke is going to really pressure the ball this year, and may do a type of press. It will be interesting to see what we do if we encounter that because playing two bigs against that pressure is a recipe for disaster. Having Garrett & Dotson both in the game though is huge.

This isn’t a first game jitters. Self has never valued the basketball and it’s been discussed a lot in years past here - his team always rank high in TO. I think the FF team two years ago that played 4 guards/wings was one of the few he’s had that didn’t TO much

Meh...1st game case of the sloppy jitters.

Cant turn the ball over 30x and expect to beat good teams.

Having that said...had KU done even a halfway decent job taking care of the ball they wouldve won by 10+

Turnovers are coachable.

The effort is there...just sloppy boneheaded play the 1st game.

My concern is their inability to shoot the 3. In the past theyve been able to shoot themselves out of offensive funks, last yr that wasn't the case and so will this yr.

I assume you mean in terms of what happens at the end. Because the spotlight on these games is actually quite large and they’re our most important games until the NCAAT. Didn’t see all of this game but Greensboro is a pretty good midmajor.

This will be a good KU team. And I don’t see any other teams being powerhouses. I think KU has as good of a shot as any to go all the way. They have a lot of work to do, but the pieces are there. Unfortunately, it’s looking like they’re going to have to limit the minutes for the bigs. They essentially have three 5s on the roster who have no face-up game. I’d heard that Silvio had developed his offensive skills and shooting, but no signs of it yet.

Since manning left the improvement in the big men has been less. Doke is a senior and has horrible feet. McCormick played a lot of minutes last year and while he is really talented he can’t figure what to do with the ball offensively. SDS might develop but he’s had 2 years to work on his game and it looks bad. If Manning was here I’d be stoked. He’s not. Vanderbilt looks terrible. I wonder if he would come back

Combo guard with good size and decent length. Big-time scorer who can knock down shots from all three levels. Very crafty with ball in his hands and uses handle and footwork to create his own shot. Difficult shot maker with fadeaways and runners in his arsenal. Not just a scorer; has tremendous vision and can facilitate for teammates. Given his vision and scoring ability, can play on and off ball. Has size and feel to defend multiple positions. Trajectory has been extremely impressive. If continues to improve at same rate he is well on NBA path.

UK lost to Evansville? Yikes.

I always like Cunliffe. Why did he leave?

He actually left because he's physically unable to play the kind of defense Self wants. However...

After the game, Cunliffe talked with national college hoops analyst Jeff Goodman about the victory and had some kind words to say about Kansas and Bill Self, who sent Cunliffe a congratulatory text after the win.

“It was the first text I responded to,” Cunliffe told Goodman. “He was really hard on me. Seeing that text from him meant a lot to me. I wouldn’t have been able to do what I dd tonight without Kansas. Coach Self made me tougher.”

In two games with the Purple Aces (2-0), Cunliffe is averaging 17 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes per game off the bench.

After starting his career at Arizona State and transferring to KU after a semester, Cunliffe sat out the second semester of 2016-17 season and the first of the 2017-18 season before appearing in 15 games with the Jayhawks during their run to the Final Four in 2018.

On the one hand, KU has nothing to complain about if you're going to dribble the ball like that and turn your back to the court. On the other, it's a douche move. If you are such a tough guy do that during the first 39:54 of the game and maybe they won't be dribbling out the clock on you.

That would be my guess. He doesn’t look bulky so Enaura should, if is his technique is good enough, so better than a big chasing him.

However Self will probably try to make him defend Doke or McCormick, which also is sound.

Let him prove he's past whatever mental thing he had with FT's.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Dayton will garner more than the 1 vote they received in the last AP rankings. I was impressed. Very. :hmmm:

Yeah, it was a good game for this early in the season.

Quality win. Dayton played well and went 16/33 from 3 - 48%. Would not like them in our bracket come March.

I still love that my innocuous NCAA tournament gimmick bothers you (and literally only you) that much.

TRIGGERED derp

And no, everyone was laughing at you last year (and it actually wasn't a bad schtick until you got to the point where you couldn't possibly exaggerate any more, yet kept going).
