Must be painful for you to realize Matt cassel has a higher career qb rating than Alice.

HAHAHA.

Yes, im all torn up about it. Terribly. Im terribly upset that Alex Smith didn't get his big break by taking over for a hall of famer, with two hall of fame receivers, which is why he received his big break.

Matt Cassel sucks. Im just honestly happy, that after nearly a decade, no one will rightfully be able to call Alex Smith a bust.

I don't mind you gloating, but c'mon man. They had so many turnovers.

They literally fumbled snap because the Center thought the QB was under center when he was in Shotgun.

It was that bad. Needless to say the Eagles have some issues.

So while I'm not going to be one of those guys that's says "look at the stats" a wins a win. Especially on a short week

But let's be objective here, the EAGLES kept the Chiefs in the game. It wasn't any kind of heroic play from the QB position. They lead wire to wire I believe.

Please clarify.

as I stated before 2010 was the Weis year that he was attempting to "fix" Cassel, and put him in a position to quasi succeed. Due to Weis working his magic Charlie had Cassel protecting the ball with a league best TD/INT ratio that made him a pro bowl alternate. Hence, the comparison of making easy high percentage passes that won't hurt or truly help the team. Cassel had a tendency to run like a chicken with its head cut off, when he was under pressure( though he was slower, and only looked at two reads 80 % of the time and held the ball too long if it wasn't a picture perfect throwing play.

Mavericks loves mentioning kaeps performance on Sunday in every post. Can Alice smith fans read properly?

Yes. because it is relevant.

Alex Smith, and Kaepernick were in very similar situations. both playing on the road, both received phenomenal efforts by their defenses.

One guy imploded, turning the ball over 4 times. The other, despite not having his security blanket tight end, or running game, or an offensive line that was competent until the 4th quarter, still found a way to win a game, while completing clutch 3rd downs 3 times on the game deciding drive.

Dispute it.

You cant. You are sitting here ripping a guy, while YOUR preferred qb failed in similar circumstances.

Every time you diss Alex Smith, im going to remind you of that. And don't get me started on how he failed in the super bowl to be the first 49ers qb to lose. That burns me worse than anything.

No one hates Kaep. I think anyone who supports Smith recognizes that Kaep has superior physical ability. We don't like how Smith was replaced, and we respect how Smith took it in stride - same as he has with all of the other adversity he's faced. What we don't like is the double standard that the Smith haters give Kaep.

Anyway, this is a Chiefs thread, so just go away.

I am officially a fan of the Chiefs. It is difficult to say this, but if they played the 49ers right now, I would actually be conflicted. :hmmm:

A whole lot of this!

Gotta admit it's kind of cool having 2 teams. The reason I follow them is because I feel the same way you do, about what happened to Alex. Add to that I wanted the 9ers to pick up Avery when he left the Rams. Now I get to see them work together. I hope AJ can step up his game because I would love for him to succeed too.

AliceSmith

I do get over it. But, if the shoes were reversed.

I wouldn't be the pro Kap guy three days after Kap completely cost the 49ers a game in horrific epic failing fashion, over ripping on the former qb who utilized that same kind of defensive effort, and kept his team in the game until the offense could get something going.

Its ill timed, and stupid.

I chose not to really go into any further about that Giants game, because you are not telling the whole story about that game.

No parts of the team in that game played well.

NONE. And I would like you to argue OTHER WISE.

Where as, I can rightfully and truthfully say that every part of the 49ers played well, MINUS Kap.

Dispute it.

Kaep played like ass. No excuses from me.

So, now saying that every phase of the team played poorly, absolves Alex Smith of blame?

How about the special teams. Two blocked field goals remember? How about the opening kick off return by the Giants David Wilson which the Giants promptly turned into 7?

How about the fact that in the first half, Eli manning completed 3rd down after 3rd down on Carlos Rogers? How about in the second half, the Giant ran all over the 49ers? Not to mention that Alex Smith played like crap. 8 rushes for Frank gore too by the way.

No the Chiefs kept the chiefs in the game by forcing TOs and not comitting their own.
It is no secret that Smiths greatest attribute is playing mistake free football.
That is why he can constantly win as much as Kaep.
Turn overs are the most reliable statistic in determing which team won and which lost. So Kaep and Vick may put up bigger #s, Smith just doesnt turn the ball over, and keeps the ball in the offenses possession giving the other team less chances to score and the defenses job much easier. His record over his last 31 games is not up for debate.

I mean, I have heard many times from guys like yourself that the Seattle game last year that was 42-13 was a result of having to play back to back road games vs the pats, then at seattle.

I just really enjoy what they're doing with the team. The offensive philosophy, the defensive scheme, the attitude and energy of the team - is all just amazing to watch. To go from 2-14 to 3-0 is awesome. And to see our boy Alex leading the charge just feels like redemption.

Just relax. I get it.

I'm not saying it's impossible for them to win in Seattle.

They haven't lost in 9 games there though, so it's not like it's a cakewalk. I'd like to see the team that does it and how it gets done. Cause if Tom Brady's catchin L's in Seattle, there's not a lot of hope for the rest of the league.

Show me a team that goes back to the Super Bowl the year after they lose it and I'll show you a Buffalo Bill. There's very little precedent for it, and I didn't expect it this year.

Anybody that thinks the year is a failure if we don't win the Super Bowl obviously isn't a student of football history. Which makes them STUPID (or at least not as smart as me) :shake:

I want what I want every year. A chance in the dance. And then we'll see what happens.

Matt Cassel once started a season 3-0.

And that was an obvious fluke. The difference is that Alex Smith actually doesn't throw interceptions when under pressure, unlike Cassell.

Alex played pretty good down the stretch but looked pretty average the first 3 quarters.

Hopefully soon he will start stretching the field, I think that will come with more experience in the offense

But but but he was amazing!!!!!

Stretching the field? Not in his DNA. Even his biggest fans will concede that.

Give that shit a break. Alex is a crap ton better than Cassel even on his worst day.

There are moments that would seem to suggest this, but, overall, I don't agree. While he might be more talented, Smith is such a cautious pussy that he plays himself down to Cassel's level.

It's not like anyone on offense played especially well, but smith is still >60% completions, he had his best game yet in terms of yardage, his rating is still above 90, and he hasn't turned the ball over in 3 games. We won a road game on a short week by 10 points. The team is 3-0. No the offense isn't humming as well as it might be, but it's hard to find a whole lot to bitch about.

This team's biggest problem is that both our tackles are getting beaten like drums, and the interior line isn't much better.

Philadelphia had no problem flooding the deep and intermediate routes with dbacks because they were getting pressure with a 3 or 4 man rush. Smith did exactly what he could which is take what they're giving him.

if Cassel were running this offense, with the kind of pressure Smith is getting, we'd be getting shut out. Instead we're able to win ugly.

Alex reminded more of Trent Green than Trent Dilfer today. He had a few clutch, medium range throws in the 3rd/4th quarter that won the game for us. His stat line even looked like a Green stat line (22/35 273 0 TD 0 INT). If this defense continues to perform at this level, this team could be fun to watch throughout the year.

Alex played well, but if I see one more comparison to Trent Green I might run my head through a brick wall. Trent orchestrated the best offense in the NFL for 4 years. Alex does enough to not **** it up. Outside of being right handed white guys they are no where near the same QB's. If you put Cassell on the far left and Trent on the far right as measuring sticks Alex is right in the middle of those two.

I cussed Alex Smith for the entire 1st half, but the guy came through when it counted the most.

... and that's what he does.. at least, most of the time.

Despite my frustration with Smith, THere is something I really like about the guy. He only gets rattled when it DOESN'T matter as much but is tough as nails towards the end. Again, I haven't followed the guy his entire career..I know his numbers lifetime are Casselesque..but.........

Oh, and he did seem rattled during this game at some points. Hard to blame him, as the OL was ass, and the Eagles were dropping tons of coverage because they didn't respect our run game. But, as per usual, Smith shook the trepidation off and handled business.

* Wanted to point a critical play out.... gif this bitch up, Clay...*

They replayed that bulllet EZ pass Smith threw to Chad Hall... dropped. That pass squeezed right in between dangerous coverage. The LB was blanketing Hall from behind and a DB dove in from the other side... but the ball went right through Hall's forearms. **** you, Chad Hall. That one was bold and beautiful and would have been a real nice TD.

Was 2010 that long ago?! Putting up 42 against the Seahawks? The 314 yard/3TD/0 INT game against the Titans? Smith is certainly better in a few areas, but let's not pretend Cassel was completely incompetent against the bad-mediocre competition that year. Smith probably has a higher ceiling at this point, and we probably won't even see it this year, but come on...

The funny thing about 2010 Cassel according to the info from our "insiders" Haley was pissed off that Weis was getting the credit for Matt's improvement. When Weis left, Cassel went back to bag "o" shit self. Thus, it was truly Weis that polished that turd and not Todd.

Yes, and they were timely.

That doesn't change the fact that PHI should not even have been in the game at half time if your offense had produced anything in the 1st half of play with very short fields from turnovers or special teams play.

We were talking time of possession, and I was just noting that it generally was from 5 takeaways, not the offense churning out long ball-control drives.

That doesn't take away from the fact that there was some very timely offensive play late in the game. Kudos to the offense for getting it down when they had to this game.

You are trying too hard. You stated what? just yesterday that you were going to be objective and that you had no axe to grind. You have now been exposing yourself quite clearly in this thread. You sound threatened that Alex's arrow is up and Kaep's is down. That's the only reason I can see for you to blow your cover so soon here. Ooops.

Unless you believe the other rumors that Weis didn't even want to work with Cassel and pawned it off on Haley. From that you could conclude it was Weis' system.

Sure it did. The guy had just completed 25-27 passes with 4 tds and no turnovers and came one completion away from being the all time leader in completion percentage in a game.

He also was supposedly the best friend of the coach, who benched him at the very first chance he got.

But rest assured, I am very happy with how things are playing out currently.

Yeah man. Same here. Smith was leading the entire League in passer rating. I can't think of a single precedent for what happened to Smith. There are some guys getting replaced like that... but not a QB that was like 20-5 at the time, leading the passer ratings, and had just been one STs fumble away from the SB the year before. I felt Harbaugh owed him his shot at the 2012 SB... and then could move on from him in the offseason if we came up short.

... but most importantly, like you said... I am well over it by now and actually pleased with how everything has worked out.

Sandy Vagina

Yup. They do. And now they have 10 days off to get guys healthy, and keep working to get better.

Im not sure that anyone expected the offense to be perfect immediately.

Having the Chiefs defense certainly does help ease some of those growing pains though.

FACTS: Kaepernick turned the ball over 4 times, including just a ridiculously STUPID pick in the red zone that he probably could of run in for 6.

he had four turnovers. The 49ers defense held Russell Wilson under 50 percent completion percentage and under 150 yards passing.

you love to make comparisons.

1-4......

Do you know what that is?

It's not even just the turnovers. It's that the turnovers allowed the Hawks crazy good field position on 3 of them when their offense was struggling. Hmmm... how bout that? Everything sucked about that game except the defense, but Kaep shit all over himself to earn that L. A ****ing 20 passer rating with that SF team? Oh, **** that. :shake:

There is some mental illness going on with a few of you guys. Not having some chocolate penii to suckle on has led to over the top bitterness.

On offense last night, until the 4th quarter, the O-line was getting blown up on nearly every play. Didn't matter if it was a run or a pass. We were able to run and pass in the 4th quarter because Philly's D was tired.

If Alex Smith sucked the first 3 quarters, so did Charles.

The concern thus far this season should be the O-line. With Cassel and Quin last year, Charles still averaged 5.7 yards per attempt.

Sandy Vagina
09-20-2013, 07:51 AM
Again, your just telling part of the story to make your boy look good.

2 of those games were against Tavaris ****ing Jackson.

In the ONE game Smitty played against Russell Wilson: He had a 29.3 rating.

nice try, but Smith had a 74.5 passer rating. You trying to slip that bogus ESPN rating in is weak and desperate. :shake:

Do you even remember that game? Let's take a moment to reflect...

- We were down by 3 at the half...
- In the 3rd quarter, Alex orchestrated a 6 minute drive and threw the TD to Walker... score is now our 4 pt lead.
- In the 4th quarter, Alex gets another drive going.. this one nearly 5 minutes long... FG. SF is now up by 7 pts with 5 minutes left.
- and that's about it... hawks couldn't do shit after.

a tough, hard-fought game. But for you to suggest Alex didn't handle his 2nd half business against a tough Hawks defense?

You deserve to be sodomized by a rusty, antifreeze-covered baton dipped in aids.

You know what's funny. CK and Alex had similar situations early in the game. Both special teams gave them a possession in the red zone. CK gave the ball back to Seattle and Alex made sure they got 3 on the board. CK missed a bunch of open targets, while Smith had his starting TEs out and his WRs couldn't get open. So for some to come on here and say Alex had a chance to get huge lead early, SO DID F'N CK! Make sense of that.

Why do you continue to listen to what others are saying, especially in the media. Deion and the NFL tried to make a big deal of how Alex didn't have his own booth at the Super Bowl. Yesterday all they showed was him talking about Vick being a mature guy now and that he knows how to attack an Andy Reid team. I wasn't able to watch the game live last night, but will catch up on DVR today.

I've only watched through Philadelphia's first TD so far. Main impressions:

1) It's nice to be pleasantly surprised by the Chiefs rather than disastrously disappointed. Benefit of having no real expectations coming into the season, I suppose.

2) The defense is actually really quite good. I didn't believe it would be better than mediocre before the season, and I think the main key is the way Poe has blossomed. But a fully healthy and comfortable Berry (finally living up to the hype, which was considerable) makes a big difference, and Sean Smith has been a nice, solid pickup.

3) I'm still leery about the offense. The OL still looks to be struggling, and Fisher sticks out more than most in that regard. Smith - at least so far in this game, from what I've seen - hasn't show anything more than in the previous two games.

I will continue to be skeptical/doubting of the offense and Alex Smith in general until shown more (and maybe that happens in this game, from the way it sounds). Sure has worked out well with the D, at least!

I have some advice for you. It's clear that you want to prove that you're right and it means so much to you that you have to follow a QB that hate in order to do it. We know you will be thinking of him all night the moment he loses and will be smiling about it before you go to bed. The next day you will wake up with a smile and be on here the second you wake up. Posting stuff from your phone about how right you were. Do us and yourself a favor, save that time for something more positive. Go get a hobby, spend time with your loved ones, and most of all stop dumping on Alex Smith. Especially when your QB is playing the style of ball that won't even get them in the playoffs. If CK would stop turning the ball over you will see just how much better the 9ers would be.

Still don't think they can win in the playoffs with that type of performance at QB (still). All going to depend on the defense (is it top 10 good? Top 5 good? Top D in league good? Legendarily good?) and how much the OL/running game can improve.

So when he takes the easy, short throws, you bitch that he needs to be more aggressive and throw deeper. When he throws the more difficult, deeper throws, you bitch because you want him to throw the easy short ones. Got it!

You Alex Stalkers are all masters of the straw man. Who has said Alex has elite Aaron Rodgers status?

I would say he was more than okay though. I would say "good," or even "very good."

Go hug someone, you'll feel better.

If Alex continues to play well, and I believe he will, the Chiefs can focus on improving other areas with the Draft. There are going to be a lot of other teams going after a QB this next draft (the Eagles just to name one) ...that will leave a lot of other good players in other positions to pick from.

The Chiefs picked up Alex at a great time. He's done with the rookie growing pains, he's learned how to have poise in the pocket, and he's only 29. He's also not a money hungry jerk. You'll have to color me a little skeptical when I hear a guy is willing to play for less than face value.

I can understand your skeptism...but just look at his contract history. He has never displayed, at any time, he was ever in this for the money. When he struggled he took a pay cut. He came back before the 2011 preseason, before he even had a contract and ran the 49ers training camp during the lockout. He wasn't even guaranteed to be on the team and he did that. His next contract will probably be in the 10-12mil range and will be a team friendly contract. The guy could have been a distraction last season for the 49ers and he wasn't. The guy may not be the rocket arm QB you're looking for but he can and does help this team win games. How many turn overs did KC have by game 3 last year? How many wins did they have by game 3 last year? Smith is a different guy than he was just a few years ago so I hate when people use his old stats against him...as if no one can ever learn from past mistakes. All those interceptions he threw during his early years ....he's learned from them. He just doesn't do that anymore. How he has played from 2011-2013 is who he is now. He plays fundamentaly sound football. He is very cautious and that may frustrate the fan base but there is no doubt about it ...he does win games.

With Alex Smith we are going to need a good running game, a good O-Line, good receivers who can get yards after the catch and a good defence. But isn't that true with all the other teams as well? Isn't that why the Packers havent returned to the Superbowl? Isn't that why Tom Brady is so frustrated right now? Don't forget guys this is a team sport and no one superstar QB can do it by himself. With a cap friendly QB we can afford the supporting cast to make a winning team.

I dont understand the haters following him from SF. I just dont get it. I never once considered getting on a Viking forum to talk Cassel, or a Browns forum back in the day to talk Grbac. If you hate him that much and think you are so much better off without him, then why you do even bother to waste any amount of type space over here? And you talk about others needing to get a life..lol.

Let him go sweetheart. You have a really good thing in Kapernick. Go cuddle him, or he may feel like you dont love him since your constantly talking about your ex Alex.

You Alice Smith slurpers are blind to the shit you guys post. It's unbelievable the projection and hypocrisy. All those years of trying to defend your worthless QB, this is the result.

I don't control what any other poster posts.

And you, my friend, are in no position to call anyone a troll. Trolling is the only reason you are here.

Yeah, if a Vikings fan was all "omg, this Cassel guy has some potential!" I'd simply tell them to that 2010 was his ceiling and he'll find out eventually. There are probably Vikings fans who "need to be warned," but meh, they'll figure it out.

And that kind of goes for those who like Smith and want to convince us... if Smith is worth everything that's said about him, we'll find out ourselves.

I agree with that, but I understand them wanting to continue talking about their guy and wanting him to succeed. Haters? If you hate him, then you should be stoked that you never have to deal with that guy again unless hes playing your team. Why bother getting on another board to keep him in your life if you think hes that big of a POS? Let him go...

I was happy with this move from the start and its been a fun ride. Alex is the man! LOL at "has put this offense on his back"... and no, I don't think he sucks, but I can read stats and Smith's best full season stats are almost identical to Cassel's 2nd best full season (don't even need to include the year with NE).

That was from other Chiefs players talking about Alex and the drive in the dallas game-then he did it again last night. Cassel would have thrown a pick from the 5 not drive them down. Stats don't tell the whole story. Marino always had better stats than Joe- but it takes a team to win.

Gotcha. I joined the 49er forum during the off season and posted a bunch of positive things I saw coming into this season with KC. I expressed my feelings about Avery and how he could be a good WR with Alex. So far my analysis of that was correct. I slowly found myself having to deal with a lot of negative comments from people who absolutely thought KC would struggle and be lucky to win 6 games. I kept saying I thought this team had a chance to be special and so far so good on that too. Everyone has their opinion but those guys over there think they know for a fact that theirs are true no matter how much proof you show them. Whatever though, the whole thing is ridiculous and I don't even know why I even bother.

Interesting notes on Alex Smith.

Currently has attempted only 4 passes over 20 yards (1 completion). (30th)

13th in accuracy percentage (not bad but he was near the top in SF)

His receivers have dropped the 5th highest percentage of passes so far.

4th highest sack percentage when under pressure (not surprising)

23rd in completion percentage when under pressure

He is performing poorly when he actually has time to throw. He actually leads the league in number of dropbacks of 2.6 seconds or more. Only completing half of his passes in those situations, with 8 sacks.

LMAO all of your gut wrenching bile for Axl and you think we beat them on the road?

I like the split part, just the other way around.

It's almost like religion.

It's happened many times before. We do it with Oakland regularly. Our division games aren't like yours, brah.

Gotta give props to Alex. This is a perfect ball. If it's thrown to the other shoulder, it might be a pick.

HOLY SHIT he even didn't go with the checkdown. Hmm, actually, is that Charles? The Checkdown might've been the better move, he could've taken off down the sideline. Oh, no just saw it was a 2 not a 5, so McCluster? Then good play Alex. Now if he'd do that with Bowe and we'd get to see him throw some 'bows to clear out those d-backs and take off for another 20-30 yards.

That was the bullet pass to Avery on 3rd and 10 from their own 5.

Nice. Any chance of getting that Chad Hall endzone pass incompletion?

I didn't want Alex Smith but I excepted it and now it's growing on me. I was wondering though, is Detroit in a SB window now since they did draft Stafford a few years back?

For 3 1/2 quarters Smith played like the biggest vag in sports. I've never seen a QB so petrified to throw the ball downfield. Forget about forcing the ball into a tight spot, he won't risk a throw to a receiver if there is a DB within 4 yards.

But, when they needed him to step up - he did. He finally made the throws he had to at the end. It was nice, too bad he doesn't have the confidence to do it a full game.

I think he played it right. We came away with the win, and no turnovers, unlike the other QB (who isn't afraid to throw it down field, but turns it over a lot).

Winning is the only thing that is important. Passing yards only matter in FF. I'll take a QB that doesn't throw long very often but wins over one that throws long and loses any day of the week.

I think the poster you quoted just wanted some quick attention and knew how to get it. ;)

... and of course, I agree with you.
